View Full Version : People who are NEVER wrong...

...even when you've presented glaringly obvious evidence to the contrary.

Am I the only one who gets this on an almost daily basis?

Take my coworker, Idjit, for example, (no, seriously, please. Take her. Drop her off a cliff for all I care!) We have certain procedures to follow at work, certain ways of doing things, so as not to fuck up the system.

Well, Idjit doesn't like to do it the right way, she's decided she's going to do it another way because SHE'S right, and WE'RE wrong, and so there. Doesn't matter if I point out in the manual that the instructions explicitly say "You must do part X before part Y and Z", she'll go straight to Z because it's the easiest, quickest part, and thus, she's done! So, she's right, since the end product is the same!

Or, you'll be arguing with someone over, say, a quote or a popular cultural factoid, and even if I can find the exact page number in the textbook that proves the other person wrong, they still insist they're right because that's the way THEY remember it, and that's the way THEY see it, therefore, I'm wrong.

My absolute FAVORITE by far are the people who don't even try to justify why I'm wrong or they're right! It's just simply, "Nope. You're wrong. You don't know what you're talking about."

Example of this?: Me saying that the shortest way to get to point B from point A is to take path A. (and it really is, Rand-McNally, google maps, mapquest and yahoo maps all agree with me!)

"Nope. You don't know what you're talking about."

Um, what? Why?

"You're just wrong."

No, seriously, WHY. Explain this to me!

<shrug> "You're just wrong! I know what I'm talking about!!!"

Ugh. I really really hate people who babble just to hear themselves talk even without having any basis in fact or reality, but because they've said it, they're right, and I am apparently a great, galumping idiot.

Where's my tequilia...?

I hate it both in real life and online.

I used to post about my coworker Mo a lot, she loves to argue. And by that, I mean she is always right, and will argue the stupidest thing. One post on CS I had once was about her actually getting into a heated argument at work over Forever Stamps.

I hate people who are always correcting others or "Actually, this is how this works"

Yeah, I get that sometimes...too bad I'm outranked every time.

LOL

Yeah, that could be a damper on things, couldn't it, Hobbs. Sorry, don't mean to giggle, but that's a bit amusing.

How would that apply inward? For example, if one thousand people all say one person is dumb, ugly, useless, crazy etc, and only recently do say, 500 people say the opposite, how would that work?

Well, you are a woman. Hm. I know!

If your five kids say they want you to make apple pie,

and if your four other kids say they want you to make cherry pie,

which pie do you make?

Anwser? Both pies because they are all males and you do what they say!

(KIDDING!)

I was thinking more along the lines of scrambled brains eggs.

Yes. Eggs. That's what I mean.

I see it on AdelaideNow ALL the time in the comments. People will post up stupid generalisations and such, then when the evidence is presented, they'll either ignore the advice completely and not post again, or they'll attempt to attack the evidence with their own false evidence.

I hate it when they have to get in the last word. On CS I explained how polka's were part of Hispanic (mainly Mexican) culture. Later on I get a PM saying, "Well yeah, but it's also in blah-blah cultures. You're the one being uncultured."

What irked me is that we had only been talking about Tejano culture, and adding that was just a petty backlash.

I hate that. There was this one woman that thought that she was part of my ghost hunting group that I am in. Only because she forced her way into a dinner that was suppose to be for the upper-management of the team, after our community meeting. For the longest time, she was saying that she was part of the team. Every time, we would so no you are not. Hopefully finally, she understands that she is not on the team

I used to see this happen back in the day with a particular guy on the official Marilyn Manson bbs. "Gary" was a nice guy, but he had a really bad habit of posting stories/rumours which had no truth to them, he was NEVER able to provide solid proof of where he was getting this from, and he'd get really bent out of shape when it was pointed out that he was wrong.

Most of the stories which come to mind wouldn't make a lot of sense unless you were familiar with the various members of the Marilyn Manson band, so this is the only one I'll mention right now - according to "Gary", after the unfortunate incident at Columbine High school, the LDS church had contacted governments in the states surrounding Utah, and petioned them to ban Marilyn Manson from having a concert in their respective states. "Gary" insisted that the reason why I'd never heard of this happening was because the LDS church controlled a lot of the press/news media outlets here in Arizona.

I go through the "I'm never wrong" crap every damn day at work. My boss is one of those people. In his mind, everyone else is an idiot. When something in the office doesn't work, it's always "you're doing something wrong." It's never that the server/workstation/printer is a piece of shit, it's always something I've done to it.

Two things.

1) I used to have a roommate like this. About the stupidest things. I put forth a theory, A THEORY mind you about the original reason for winter holidays something that can only be proven by hopping in a time machine and asking the people who started them why they did so.

She shut down any discussion with the, "Your wrong it was for these reasons that are fact!!!" Uhm you can't really know that because you don't have a book from a caveman saying, "Why we are starting these holidays"

2) People who feel computers only glitch through human error. Uhm nothing is perfect and things do happen.

I'm always one to argue about the more philosophical things from time to time, like whether something is right or wrong, or point of view arguments. But when someone is arguing some really basic fact like whether 1+1 is 2 or 3, I feel like stabbing them in the face.

I was debating once with my ex-father-in-law on whether or not Harrison Ford was Sean Connery's son, which he was convinced he was. Even after showing him the IMDB and wiki pages and other info on the net to prove that A) they're not related and B) the age difference is too close anyway, he still was convinced he was right and that all the information I showed him was just plain wrong.

I had an english teacher in High School who was like this. If she gave a test and the answer the test book gave was A, then that was it. It didn't matter how many times we all as a class went to the textbook or other sources and proved the answer was C, she'd stick to her guns.

"Well, C is correct... but A is MORE correct."

Gah.
