Yeah, that's a huge case of discrimination right then and there.

Yes it is but so is telling sex offeneders they can't live in certain places becuase they are too close to schools.
Most mentally ill wouldn't have a problem flying and that doesn't sound like what they want. It seems like they are looking to ban those that are a proven danger to themselves and others.
This makes sense to me I wouldn't want to put them in a metal tube flying through the air that can't just be pulled over to the side of the road.

I read about a law somewhere where the mentally ill have a choice of taking their medication or going to a hospital/institution. I could understand adding or tieing this into it. Any kind of break down or episode on a plane, especially these days, could get very ugly, very quickly.

Kind of reminds me of that case where that woman complained about how her autistic son was treated on a plane... when in fact, he was rolling around on the floor and putting everyone in danger. If a person has a mental disorder and it isn't being controlled by medication, they are going to put everyone else in danger. There's nothing discriminatory about it; it's a safety measure.
This isn't a bus, or a train; it's a sealed metal tube several tens of miles up in the air. Someone throwing a fit or attacking people is going to put the entire plane in jeopardy. The lives of the majority are more important than the needs of one.

This isn't being seriously considered. It's just some musings by a security expert.
Besides, he's only referring to those with uncontrolled mental disorders that cause them to behave violently.
It's perfectly reasonable to ban people who routinely behave violently, whether due to mental disease or not. Planes are cages in the sky. There's nowhere to escape if someone loses their shit.
