Teacher censors yearbook over student's words about principal

the boy's comments accused Carpenter (the principal) of spending "all our money on a new fence instead of new textbooks."

This was untrue as it was the school district's decision, not the principal's.

So teacher got scissors, cut out said student, and added a explanatory note about why the student's picture was removed.

Anger from parents/students ensued.

Yearbook to be reprinted at discount with student's picture and a new comment by said student.

I'd raise some serious hell if a teacher defaced my yearbook like that. What the hell did the teacher think would happen?

I don't know about that school, but our teachers looked over everything before allowing it to be published. Obviously they don't do that and it's their fault they don't.

At my school we had to pay for the yearbook publishing ourselves. If the school wants a say on what goes in it, they can pay for it.

Yeah, when I took Journalism (the class where we made the yearbook), our teacher inspected all of our proofs, pictures, captions, ads, the whole shebang. Of course, that didn't stop him from letting the two juniors (his little teacher's pets) change half the pages after the seniors had graduated.

Good for her. Kid didn't know what he was talking about and just wanted to cause trouble. The year book isn't the place to try to cause controversy

So instead of editing the yearsbooks before printing, the teacher defaces everyone's copy. Definitely went about it the right way...

Its too bad it wasn't caught earlier but something had to be done. It wouldn't surprise me if those working on the yearbook snuck it in after getting approval for the final design.
