Basically, the head honcho of our courts, claims that the judges 170,000 dollars a year, (and his own 212,100 dollars a year) should be raised. Freaking greedy asshole.

When taken into the context that the work force as a whole have advanced their pay and the judges have lagged behind inflation, I'd say that raising judges' pay is acceptable. Why be a judge if you make more money as a practicing lawyer? I think that is the situation of many judges.

Bingo.

Besides, we do want to be attracting the best and the brightest to the bench, and they do go through a lot of schooling and clerkship to get to where they are. Do we really want the crappy lawyers who can't make as much becoming judges, or losing the bright minds we already have on the bench back to private practice to earn what they're worth?

I think they do make enough money as it is, but at least they do important work. You can't really compare them to say, the greedy sports players who play a game for money and then complain they don't get paid enough.

Interesting point about attracting the best and brightest btw.

Hmmm - how about lowering the pay of lawyers instead?

Lawyers will remain expensive as long as people are willing to pay a lot of money for their services.
