  • Video Game Encourages Gambling for Children

NBA 2K20 has obvious gambling mechanics in the game. It has a a spinning wheel, loot boxes, and a slot machine. The game is rated PEGI 3 and E for Everyone by the ESRB. The latest Pokemon game is rated PEGI 12 and T for Teen because it has simulated gambling.

In other words, both PEGI and the ESRB have decided that a game with simulated gambling is not as appropriate a game with ACTUAL gambling. They also determined that a game with actual gambling is appropriate for 3-year-olds.

PEGI has issued a statement that said that they don't consider giving money to 2K to take a chance at a random reward is gambling.

I'm not surprised these are the same countries that think showing two people making love is a horrible thing that will scar kids for life but that seeing people killed in mass numbers is just good wholesome fun.

It appears that UK's Parliament has determined that loot boxes surprise mechanics are indeed harmful to children and society. They said that the games industries must prove that these gambling mechanics are not harmful to children or society.
