  • "Hollywood"

Hollywood is a neighborhood. It's an old sign. There is no "Hollywood organization" there is no Hollywood, Inc that tells all studios, shows etc what to do.

Yet every time someone disagrees with the opinions of one show that by itself put out an episode without consulting every other person in the industry to see if they agree with the opinions expressed in it I have to hear people blather on about how Hollywood's full of hypocrites.

"Hollywood said they wouldn't say things like this" No Studio A said nothing like that would appear on their Network shows. Studio B said no such thing and it's not hypocritical for them to not avoid a topic they didn't agree to avoid.

It might originally have been a neighbourhood, but it's come to mean somewhat more than that. Indeed, the actual studios aren't even in the hollywood neighbourhood these days (to cut a long story short, the advantages that Hollywood had at first no longer exist since Hollywood is now in central LA when originally it was a small town outside LA) but t's come to be a word used for the movie industry itself.

You aren't wrong that they aren't co-ordinated centrally though.
