I have one more summer of being in my 20s and then I hit the end of year 30 of my time in this life.
I feel like I should do something epic something that truly celebrates what I consider to be one of the major milestones of life. I have no clue what so on the lighter side of debates what is the best way to celebrate turning 30?

Hopefully you celebrate it better than I did. Mine was spent at the bottom of a southern comfort bottle in self-loathing depression.
If I had the chance to do it all over again, I'd go for the epic road trip with a group of friends. Something that is going to create memories that we'd all enjoy for the rest of our lives.

I had two celebrations; first one was a sedate dinner out with family. Second involved me, my boyf, my friends and the local pub. XXD

If I remember rightly, I spent my 30th birthday working. But some of my family surprised me by showing up after dinner rush was over with a cake :)

I'm not turning 30, ever. I'll turn 29 again, then go backwards back to 21, then go forward to 29 again, then back again.

Less than $200 for skydiving, hmm? Jumping out of a perfectly good plane is bad enough. Forget paying someone else for the privilege.

I worry that my weight would be an issue with the sky diving.
Otherwise I have arranged it so that my pay for August will cover that and September's rent and then Every dime I make in sepetember, around a grand, is dedicated to giving myself the experience of a lifetime.
My birthday hasn't really been celebrated for the last 14 years so this is me taking charge and doing something epic.
As long as I work through the summer I can even take the whole week paid off of work.

Don't worry, the plane can lift you.

They make chutes in every damn size anyone could possibly need. Besides, one could say reaching the ground is the easy part. :D

I spent my 30th b-day volunteering at a street festival. Actually I went out of my way to work that day, and explicitly refused my parents' inevitable extended-family party idea, where I'd have to stomach everyone trying to set me up with their lady-friend/sister/cousin/mother/whatever.
I was depressed, not because of my age, but because I wasn't having a particularly good summer. Age is just a number, and I really didn't have anything worth celebrating.

What scares me is that I am considering it. If I did a tandem jump I could do it but not by myself but still do it.

You don't do it alone here. You have a professional who is stuck to you the entire time.

Here too but I checked they do have a weight limit. 230 or below I would have to get in better shape first which I am working on anyway.
My other concern is my daughter I don't want anyone having to explain to my 9 year old that something went wrong and I won't be seeing her again.
Yes I know long odds of that happening and yes I could walk out my front door and get shot tomorrow but still it's something to keep in mind.
I know what it's like to lose your dad.

I didn't celebrate my 30th until my 31st. Some friends flew into see me, then we went on a weekend trip to New Orleans.

When I eventually make it to New Orleans I want to really go not tourist go. one of my friends are thinking of doing a "your no longer a teenager" thing. A week of doing all the things we used to do ten years ago.

That's what we ended up doing. From what we saw, a lot of people there are really willing to tell you where the locals go, as opposed to the touristy areas.

I got pregnant.
That may not be in your list of things to do to have a good time, though. :p

How about this, the principal of my 2nd high school (granted, he wasn't a heavy man but he was only just a few years from retiring) did the tandem jump, and he loved it. He was even on the news, saying how he wondered why'd he always been so scared and why hadn't he done it when he was younger?
If a man in his sixties can do it and live, you can, too.
I will stick to cow tipping, stuff I know I can get away with.

I am overweight for a tandem jump. I already checked I did seriously consider sky diving but I won't be able to lose that kind of weight in the four months I have.
One thought I have is maybe go somewhere I have never been.
Another thought is relive my youth. A day at the arcade, roller rink, at the movies etc.
I could go shopping. Treat myself to all the places I have wanted to go but haven't been eat at a different restaurant I have been wanting to try for every meal for a week in between buying books and stuff.

I didn't do anything big for any of my birthdays in my 20s (bear in mind, 19 is the drinking age in Canada, my 19th has a story)
I actually forgot my own 22nd birthday until a few days later.
And like Crash, I've done the self-loathing in a bottle too.
I turned 30 last month, Jack, and what I did was got together with 3 of my closest buddies, a couple cases of beer, good music on the stereo, burgers on the grill.
My experiment with trying to barbeque bacon was a spectacular yet fascinating failure. We mostly just sat around bullshitting, watched a flick, played a game of poker. Was the best day I'd had in years.

Staying at my mom's place and their backyard has dogs and smells. I am thinking of taking some friends to this place that has bowling, video games, and pool and doing my birthday there.

Wanting ideas doesn't mean you have to act on every idea you get :)
If he doesn't act on at least one of them, then what is the point of asking?
As for what to do, have fun! It's your birthday and you should enjoy it! I do agree with doing something that you haven't done before. Here's to a good birthday!
