People Who Rip On Other Sports Teams

The title is actually incomplete. I don't mind ripping on other teams. I do it all the time. But what I do mind is people who rip on other teams, when your team is just plain pitiful. Lets take earlier tonight for instance. Some guy was getting onto the elevator in my dorm and yelled out to me, "Nice jersey!" in a very mocking tone. I go to school outside of Philly so it's reasonable to assume he is a Flyers fan. Now let's look at that. The Flyers are BARELY in 8th place, which is a borderline playoff position. The Rangers are tied for 5th. The Rangers ROOKIE goaltender has two shutouts this season and he has only played a couple games. BOTH shutouts were against the Flyers. The Rangers have kicked the crap out of the Flyers all season long. Seriously, just keep quiet, it's getting hard trying not to piss myself from laughing about how my team is better than yours.

hang on there, just cause a team is bad doesn't mean he can't rip on yours. Yeah he was out of line with his comment, but some folks are that loyal to their teams that they don't care how they are doing in any play off. Personally I don't give a cookie about sports at all, but I won't get mad at someone for ripping on a team I like (like the Rangers btw, but more for a personal story to be shared another time) even if their team is doing terrible. Don't take it to heart, its dumb but just laugh and say "yeah and their in fifth place YAY!" and walk away.

I'm a big Ottawa Senators fan, but I don't get mad when a Leafs fan says they suck. This year, the Senators are doing better than the Leafs, but so what?

Keep it all in good fun. Watching sports should be relaxing.

The Lakers could be having a horrible season and the Suns and Kings doing well, and I will still tell them they suck. It's just how it goes.

Try being a Pittsburgh Pirates fan. The Buccos *begged* us for a new stadium so they could "attract more fans" and "grow the team." Funny, how a few years on, they *still* suck :p

But seriously, Dem Stillers and the Cleveland Browns (aka the Mistake by the Lake) have always had a healthy rivalry. They claim that we suck...yet how many Super Bowl rings do our guys have? :D

At least I get to reserve my trash talking against the Patriots. I've been a Patriot hater since I was a wee lil lad. I hated them before Tom Brady was even a starting QB. And now they can't use their Super Bowls as proof as being good, seeing as well all know they've been cheating all these years. Suck it Brady.

I think you're letting your Patriots hatred get in the way of learning the facts. Read up on spygate and the taping of signs and then think about your comment. (Hint: Videotaping signs has been in practice for years, by the majority of the NFL. All teams were told to stop doing it. Not many did, until the Patriots got reamed for it. Does that make Belichick right? No. But it does whiff of hypocrisy, doesn't it?)

Might I also note the Patriots' 2007-2008 season record, which was achieved without the benefit of any illegal taping practices. I see no need to show off past years' Super Bowl rings to prove anything.

In case you couldn't tell, I take offense when people criticize the players themselves. Bashing teams, sure (I hate the Yankees as a team, for example, for their big-bucks all-star no-chemistry approach to the game, and their ridiculously strict dress code). Ragging on coaches? Fine. But don't marginalize the players. They're only making their living doing what they do because they're better at it than damn near everybody on the planet, with rare exceptions. Dislike them if you want (even I don't like Brady, and I'm a Pats fan) but give credit where it's due.

If anyone really wants a team to rip on...you're welcome to the Pittsburgh Pirates. We haven't won a World Series since 1979, haven't been in the playoffs since '92-93, lost 100 games in 2001, etc.

Here on the weekends, we have a Newcastle supporter, Spurs (me) and a Man U. Obviously, MU is on tops, but the Pies supporter keeps ripping in about how much they pay the refs :D And, of course, the last match of the season, I had to go for Chelsea to win, and Wigan to at least tie...(bum!).

I find it amusing when the pies dude rips on Spurs... cos then I just go to the trophy cabinet of Spurs :D (granted... continually coming in at 13th-18th place doesn't do much.....).

My friend is a Mets fan. He went to a Phillies game with a friend where the Phillies were home. They were out tailgating and he had to use one of the portable bathrooms. On the way back to wherever they were tailgating, he passed by a HUGE group of Phillies fans tailgating. As he walked passed them, he estimated that 25-30 guys dumped their beers on him. And being a minority there, he couldn't rightfully kick the crap out of whoever did it, since he was surrounded by Phillies fans and would undoubtedly end up in the hospital.
