I read this story a while ago. I... I can't describe the way it makes me feel. Attacking someone for no reason other than that they look different...? I can't even fathom the logic behind it. There can't be any reasoning behind it - at least, not sane reasoning.

I'm usually pretty desensitized to the news, but this story pained me terribly. That poor girl trying to shield her dying boyfriend from the relentless attack... at least he survived. My heart goes out ot him and both of their families.

Is it my bad that when I look at the photos of the perpetrators, I think that'd be what I expect? Young, white, male, very short hair. It just seems that when this sort of thing happens as a 'once off' (as against a gang related, or race related attack - as per riots) that is usually this stereotype. (although, logically, they 'look different' in the UK - it'd be different if it was in West Africa...)

Enh. If I told you my sister was attacked and molested for wearing a miniskirt, what would you think the three perps looked like? They didn't look like that.

There are statistics about most violent crimes being commited by young males, though.

I think Slyt is just making on observation based on what the media can report sometimes, and like previously said, there are statistics pointing to young males perpetrating crimes, but I just think slyt was speaking out of coincidence, I don't know.

Not a lot more than saying (for example) that because I come from an Irish/Scottish background, I should hate the English. The fact is, some Irish and Scottish do hate the English...(still). But it would be silly to suggest that all do...


Firstly Powerboy, let me make it clear that I'm not trying to attack you personally, nor slander an entire generation or look.

There are some stereotypes that get 'made up', but unfortunately, there can be a reason for those stereotypes in the first place. I would have been extremely surprised if it had been done by, say, a bunch of long haired female hippies against a male suit and tie wearing businessman.

As (ONLY) and example....most (if not all - by definition) skinheads are white (often male - by %), young males.. and not surprisingly enough - have short hair. Some skinheads are violent. Some are extremely racist. (and yes, I've known a few..). There is a statistically higher probability of being bashed up by a skinhead than by, say, a goth. But then...in (say) Saudi Arabia, it would be a different culture who would fit the stereotype.

There's probably a stack of other descriptors that should be needed as well...like low socio-economic background, employment rates, relative contact with different cultures, etc etc. But I don't have that information... But this isn't the first time that those descriptors have been used for the perpetrators of such acts.... (and just check insurance policies.. how premiums go up depending on where you live...).

Oh - in case I am about to get flamed... consider your militant Islamic terrorist suicide bomber... what's the first image that comes into your head? Now... why couldn't have been something completely different?

I'm probably not coming across real well here.. but I hear the ice underneath me moving..:D I should probably shut up now :p

Look at the kids' pictures. They weren't skinheads, they were chavs. Stupid loud UK wiggers.
