Now I'll agree that its horrible that she will paralzyed for the rest of her life. But I knew that playing on those are dangerous. Now she suing the maker, for failing to warn of the danger of weight distribtion, a pastor who jumped on it causing her to fall, and a nurse for calling her a quiter.

I mean... aren't so many things just common sense now-adays? Like playing on those things with mulitple people is just stupid?

If there's one thing I can't stand these days is people suing over something small. There are inherent risks and dangers with playing on a trampoline and both people should've known better as adults!

The really stupid thing? The person who got hurt owned the trampoline. It was on her parent's property.
I'm assuming this is a trampoline they've had for awhile, so she should have known herself that you get a really big bounce from someone else through experience.
Sometimes shit happens. It's the way it is. I feel for her, but her life isn't over yet. Make the best of it.

What an asshole. She's probably only suing because she can't afford the medical treatment. They don't SAY that in the article, but that's my thought on the subject.

Trampolines are fucking dangerous. DUH. Almost ALL of them have warnings planted on the side that if you fall on your head you're gonna break your neck. Almost ALL of them tell you not to jump around with more than one person on it.

And for the love of all the deities...why in the nine levels of hell should the company be responsible for one user's stupidity? "But...they didn't TELL me jumping with more than one person would cause me to go careening through the air.....OOOOH I'm too DUMB to know that, somebody should have TOLD me...! WAHHHH!"

AND most trampolines I've seen COME with netting that they SUGGEST you put around it.

If it DIDN'T she CHOSE to use it without one. It's not the company's fault that her brain is broken and she couldn't get one herself.

I say we let natural selection do it's thing. This is just fucking ridiculous.

We jumped around on huge trampoline's with no net with about 5-10 other kids when I was young... no one broke their neck..but we were all WELL AWARE that we might... No one's parent came screaming through the night about safety dangers, and going after law suits.

Actually...I blame the lawyers. :mad:

Edit to add: Um...we new that someone bigger than you would pop you up in the air higher...a lot of times we did this on PURPOSE. So, I really don't buy this lady's line of shit about not understanding basic physics. Tragic that she was so injured...but when you jump on a trampoline you accept that risk.

When I was young, I was playing on a trampoline at someone else's place and I came off it and hit my head on the concrete. I ended up with a concussion and was lucky that I didn't do any other damage but my parents didn't yell and scream at the other parents and threaten to sue the trampoline company and the person who put the concrete in and the person who invented concrete and trampolines etc. No they did what parents are supposed to do give me a big hug, kiss my boo boo and take care of me, not sue everyone under the sun. That is because they knew that this could happen but allowed us kids to take the risk and I love them for doing everything that way, it made me confident to take risks but also know my limitations. I had a pogo stick as a child... now, those were the most dangerous toys ever invented. Yes, I fell off it several times and hurt myself, as did other kids; however, no-one ever thought to sue the pogo stick company. My brother even took it for use on a trampoline once; yes, it did end in tears. O_o

People need to realise one thing... we are all masters of our own fate. If you choose to do something dangerous, then the consequences are your fault, no-one else's. For example, I chose to go horseriding as a child. A girl in my riding class came off and broke her collar bone. Her parents did not sue the stables, instead they just took it as read that accidents happen, especially in such an activity. I was kicked on the shin by a horse; my parents didn't sue, just took it as one of those things.

At least, in the great state of NJ, you can't sue the stable for such accidents. Riding facilities are protected by law. Also, signs are posted everywhere stating that, although some places still require people to sign accident releases.

Our landlord had something in the backyard when I was a kid (not sure of the real term; it was basically a mini-zipline between two trees). One day I was goofing around on the thing and WHAM smashed headfirst into the tree on one end. Ended up with a mild concussion, a lot of scrapes from where I lost my grip and fell into the sticker bushes, and a sense that was a Bad Idea. Yes, I had played on it hundreds of times before. Yes I knew what could happen if you didn't follow the safety instructions, but I was a curious little geeklet and had to actually find out for myself how it could be Bad.

We all knew it was my own stupid fault; I got taken to the hospital to get checked out and the landlord took me out for ice cream with her kid when I was feeling better. I recall she did offer to pay any bills, but mom declined ("my kid, my responsibility").

WTF happened to responsibility for one's own boneheadedness? Oh that's right, everything has to be somebody else's fault <_<

I think most states have implied consent laws in place for inherently dangerous sports like ours. We have signs on our own property and when I have new people riding, they or their responsible guardians get to sign a waiver.

I think the waivers are more so people realize that, yes, riding is dangerous. Many non-horse people are so boneheaded about horses it's unbelievable...

It went out the window the moment juries started rewarding people for stupid behavior, and when lawyers started taking cases like this. This includes the idiots who got hurt/killed by tipping soda machines; the idiots who do 90mph on ice, and then attempt to sue the state because "the road is unsafe," etc.

Ya know, I think back to all the broken bones and stitches my sons had when they were little from playing various sports and roughhousing with friends.

I never would have dreamed of suing the playground, the owner of the fields, etc.

Not only that, but what's wrong with getting hurt once in awhile? It's how we learned "not to do that" as kids.

Like my riding instructor says: "If there's never a moment that makes your heart jump to your throat, you'll never learn anything"

Seriously. When shit goes wrong, you learn two things: A) how to fix it! and B) how to prevent shit from going wrong in the first place!

It's all part of growing up. Not that I'm saying it's pleasant when kids (or sometimes us silly adults) get hurt...not that I'm saying they should HAVE to get seriously injured... you do all you can to prevent those things from happening obviously... but kids are BOUND to get into trouble. Accept it as part of life, and move on!

Totally agreed. Hell, when I was a kid, if I was about to do something stupid, my mom would just stand back and say "Go ahead, see what happens." It took me VERY little time to learn that when she said that, what would happen was going to hurt like a mofo. So I stopped doing it. Simple enough!

I mean, I got hit with rocks, fell out of trees, jumped out of the second story of the barn onto a half-dead mattress, tried to dig up a fireant mound, etc. I didn't need any fancy toys to hurt myself :D And if I came crying into the house, the response was "Bet you won't do that again." Or occasionally, "Rub some dirt on it." Which was my mom's way of saying "Suck it up, weenie."

I'm just glad to see my brother and cousin are doing the same with their kids. One of the triplets climbs onto the back of the couch (which they know they aren't supposed to do) and falls off, after it's made sure she's okay, she gets a time-out for doing so after the fact. Double pain!

Oh...I'd heard that one a lot! And my Dad always use to tell me to "Brush it off" when I fell, etc.

and I still get the "Suck it up" from my riding instructor. (most recently in regards to breaking in a brand new pair of tall boots, which as anyone who has done this knows, is extremely uncomfortable) *chuckle* ;)
