Call me cynical, but the reason for starting over from square one stateside is so studies can be twisted to give whatever results companies/religious wrong groups want to spread (the earth must be filled with soldiers of Ghod therefore this is Wrong, etc).

Repeated testing by different labs and researchers is at the heart of good science. Would you rather they figure out any weird stuff now or after it's released to the public?

I'm all for weird stuff being found out before a public release (if only software companies did that as well...).

It just seems to me that because we have some very vocal fringe "religious" groups trying their hardest to outlaw all forms of BC that they could twist any research to a perceived advantage, and actually be listened to.

They are already trying that with female BC. Have you seen the recent "the pill kills" nonsense?

Considering men have it much easier, what with not being refused vasectomies the way women are refused tubal ligation, I don't see why anyone would be all riled up over it.

You're right. There's obviously only men who are either not interested in using any temporary form of birth control, or want a permanent form. No guy would like to use something that is temporary and reversible.

Nope, only women want that.

That was my point (apparently in NM, I was lucky to be able to get my scrip filled when I was there*).

* the first pharmacy began price-creep until I noticed, WM outright refused (I didn't know they were allowed to refuse scrips, then read about that Pharmacists For Life nonsense), Sam's Club would not only fill it but would give me a three-month supply for the same cost as one month if I didn't do it through the crappy insurance I had at the time. I find it unusual that WM said no but Sam's (both arms of the same megacorp) said yes

Probably just the individual pharmacists at those stores. We have a floater pharmacist that works for us a day or two per week who won't sell needles or Plan B.
We as techs have no qualms though, and I take a certain amount of pleasure in continuing to send people her way if they have questions about Plan B. I probably wouldn't be so evil if she wasn't such a hypocrite and turned down doing BC too, but she doesn't and despite having the same access to learning materials that I do doesn't seem to realize that Plan B is essentially the same as taking 2 BC pills.

Granted, if she was a stinker about BC then she probably wouldn't get to be working at our store.

Sure men are refused vasectomies. At age 20 perhaps. My last serious boyfriend was seriously considering doing it, and already was setting up an appointment with the doctor. He was 25 at the time. Now, I don't know for sure if he changed his mind or if he did it after we broke up, but the odds of ME being allowed to get "fixed" before I turn 35 are like the odds of winning the lottery.

Don't even get me started on pharmacists who refuse to wait on customers getting BC prescriptions or emergency contraception. They are just as bad as doctors who refuse to prescribe birth control or see patients who are using birth control. If your job interferes with your personal and religious beliefs, you need a different line of work. Don't ask me why you'd be a gyno versus a regular doctor if your beliefs are that strong to one side.
