True, the first article is from The Huffington Post. (Some people don't like the Huffington Post). However, please read both articles. The New York Times article gives more information.

I'm on Birth Control Pills not because I don't want to get pregnant (I do, but I believe I'm too heavy to have a safe & healthy pregnancy at the moment). However, I take the BC pills 'cos my period is so erratic, I need the hormones to regulate me so bad things don't happen to my insides.

What else can we expect of the religious right? These people truly believe that Creationism is a valid scientific theory. Of course they believe that contraception is abortion. They haven't bothered to educate themselves in biology or the natural sciences.

Much the same kind of reason for me; I have irregular and extremely heavy periods, coupled with excruciatingly bad period pain. I have PMS that turns me into the bastard child of Godzilla every month. I've been on the pill since I was 11 years old, and believe me, I was not having sex then. Those people are twats if they really believe what they're saying.

I think that rule is a bit too broad. Preventing the implantation of a fertilized egg is not the same as an induced abortion. Especially considering fertilization does not mean the egg will implant on it's own anyway.

I also don't see the issue with a hospital needing to know what a nurse objects to(and potentially discriminating in hiring practices) unless it directly affects their patients-so that should be a non-issue.

For example if a nurse doesn't believe in chemotherapy they probably shouldn't apply to work in oncology, and if they apply to work in psychiatry the hospital shouldn't be asking if they believe in chemotherapy as it does not relate to the job their applying for-

For those who are interested - there is an "urgent news" bulletin on the right side of the page explaining everything about the legislation. For those who are interested in trying to stop this, go there.

I take hormonal contraception to regulate my messed-up cycle. I am not sexually active.

I PROMISE you, the first person who dares fuck with me over my pills is going to suffer a WORLD of pain.

I come from generations of female problems. I had a period that would NOT go away.

I do not want a period and I don't think I need to put up with it. My insurance only covers the Depo shot 100%. And it works for me. It works WELL.

Not to mention I hate children and don't want any.

And let me tell you what......I am NOT aborting ANYTHING by preventing ovulation, preventing sperm from entering my cervix, and having my uterine lining be undesirable for a fetus.

You have to BE pregnant to have an abortion. There has to be a fetus growing in order to get rid of it. Emergency contraception also is not abortion, as it's just to be safe and prevent pregnancy from happening. IT HASN'T HAPPENED YET.

When will these nuts give up? You can't kill something that doesn't exist. There has to BE a fetus to abort it. Christ.

While it's not natural to prevent ovulation, it's certainly not natural to expect everyone to only have sex for reproduction and make women's vaginas into slip and slides.

Wow. That is now my favorite term for a vagina. Thanks blas!

Considering that you're commenting about a group of christian right-wingers trying to influence others because of their beliefs, I found the last word here hilarious :D

I couldn't agree more! I just don't see where they think keeping an egg from being released from the ovaries is tantamount to an abortion. I may be pro-choice and believe that life begins at conception, but how can a life begin when the egg hasn't been released, let alone fertilized and implanted.

If they truly think that, then how come they're not going after men with axes, cuz every time they wank off, millions of lives are destroyed?

I like that. I have thought about that myself.

Then again, women should be in trouble because everytime we have our monthly, we are getting rid of an unfertilized egg aka potential life.

You're right - that's the exact male equivalent!

But that isn't discussed in those circles. There's obvious misogyny involved, methinks.

Of course ... Women are evil. We dress pu provocatively, wear nice smelling perfumes, we flirt and dance, and then we drag the (un!)willing males into our bed to have $ex with us so we can have all the baybeez in da world!

Taking that thinking, then wouldn't abstinence be considered abortion? Yet the right-wingers champion that (abstinence as sex ed)... What also about all the women who for whatever reason are sterile (uterine lining unsuitable for an embryo)? Should they be accused of 'performing abortions'?

I'm also on the pill because I need to be, and my doc will confirm that. Nothing to do with preventing pregnancy (well, that's become a good reason, but it's not why I was put on it in the first place).

If men could get pregnant, abortion, (and birth control) would be sacrament.

Oh please, RK, it'd be way more than that!

If men menstruated, pads would be government funded. Men would brag about who bled the most and the longest and the nastiest.

Actually, all the men would be taking 2 weeks off every month, due to not being able to stand pain.

Actually, all the men would be taking 2 weeks off every month, due to not being able to stand pain.

Actually, research has been done that shows that men and women have biologically different mechanisms for handling pain. All of it that I was able to find right now is locked up behind subscriptions, but I have read such reports as of several years ago.

The upshot of this is that, for severe pain, women's secondary pain handling mechanism kicks in, allowing the woman to deal with it better. Oh, and the reason this secondary mechanism doesn't work for men? It's based on estrogen, which men are in pretty short supply of :)

So, you're right: Biologically speaking, men are not as well equipped to handle pain as women.

A commedian over here postulated the same thing. "Mates, I'm bleeding bad here. My pad's so thick it feels like I'm sitting on a brick!"
