Exactly. This is exactly it. I used to go to bars to get drunk... back when I was in my early twenties. Now, however, I go to bars like my local or the local social club to hang out. I like to talk to people, and yes, if my boyf is working, I go alone. My local has pool tables, a dart board and a fantastic juke box. I go there to have a few drinks, socialise and play pool. And we have the smoking ban, so it's smoke free; I stand outside with the other smokers and chat. It seems to be a pointlessly narrow view to say "I hate drunks, so I'm not going to bars"; especially since drunks are not confined to bars, and not all people who frequent bars are drunks. I first met my boyf and my best mate in my local; so you can see why I hold that view."Oh wow, I can't believe how stupid I used to be and you still are."

I do like bars, but mine tend to be more in the "Irish-ish" (I think only one of the ones I go to is own by an Irish family...mhh accents,,,) and pubs with sea chanties.
I will go to other ones with my gal pals, and yes, I will talk to other men. And yes, I am very happy in my relationship with my boyfriend. Its a good way to meet people and hey, I might find a new hiking buddy!
Very rarely in bars do I see unruly drunks...just people bein' silly.
Oh, and OT, I so want to go Portland, esp if there is a good deal of hippie food. Mhhh....vegan nom noms.

Okay. Now Hobbs I know you said you don't like going into bars at all. Fine, I respect that. Let me ask you this. You meet someone new someplace other than a bar. You two become good friends. Then a few weeks later he calls you. He says he's going to meet some friends down at the bar, and would you like to come along? You tell him, "No thanks, I'm not into going to bars."
Now to the most important question. Do you remain friends with him, or do you delete his number from your phone?Last edited by RavenStarr; 04-15-2010, 01:37 PM.If I can't bitch, I'll explode- blas87

I stay friends, but I decline offers to "go drinking" or to a bar and/or club.Originally posted by RavenStarr View PostI'm sorry but for some reason, my mind went in the gutter.

Again, I will agree with you to an extent.
I can be somewhat judgemental, and I openly admit it. I won't hang out with alcoholic bar people. I used to go out every Friday and Saturday night for the longest time. It got old. It got expensive. It was not fun after a while. Unfortunately, for a lot of people, it's still their way of life and the only thing they ever look forward to doing. I don't like to hang out with people who are always binge drinking.
That's why I will say yes to a drink or two after dinner or a movie at a more adult bar with my bf, and say absolutely NOT to his stupid friends coming here and wanting to rave it up at all the bars by the college, where I know their only plans are binge drinking and staying up till the sun comes up.

Hear, here sista!Originally posted by the_std View PostThat is the most antiquated and repressive pieces of bull I have ever seen uttered on this forum. Why do you believe that? If you don't talk to strangers from time to time, how do you go about making new friends?Originally posted by MaggieTheCat View PostI think one of the things that makes the situation Jester was in different from what everyone else is talking about, is that Jester didn't know these girls.
I'm just wondering if you hate bars so much, why do you work in one?Originally posted by Hobbs View PostLet me re-iterate. I only step foot into a bar if it's to work. I don't particularly like the atmosphere of a bar. A bar, for the most part, is for drunk people, and I don't like the company of drunk people. I've never heard of bars that sell food like that, still doesn't sound like somewhere I wanna hang out. I don't like the loud music or the clouds of smoke either. So sorry, but once I'm paid, I don't wanna be there and I leave.
A-ha. There's that pesky perception problem again. You don't perceive it to be murder, but I can almost guarantee that your enemy does see it as murder.Originally posted by Hobbs View PostKilling people in war is NOT murder. Murder is defined as the unlawful killing of another person. It's perfectly legal for me to kill. Don't be obtuse.
No, no it's not. Vegetarianism goes back to ancient Greece.Originally posted by Hobbs View PostVegan food is hippy food.
Again, if you hate bars so much, why do you work in one?Originally posted by Hobbs View PostAnd newsflash, a bar is mostly for people to GET DRUNK. I cannot stand drunk people.
Gotta wonder how Hobbs feels about restaurants that also have bars, like Chili's, Applebee's, etc.Originally posted by Plaidman View PostI never called you that. I find you judgmental prude for automatically including all people in bars as people you would never be friends with, for the simple fact they go to a bar.
I had a (former, but for other reasons) friend make an blanket statement one time that all people who smoke are awful people. That hurt me terribly, but not because I smoke. It hurt because my dad does and he is in no way, shape, or form is a bad person, completely the opposite (and I'm over-protective of him, too). I did call her on it, too, as she knew he smokes.Originally posted by AdminAssistant View PostAs do I. I'm not a bad person because I drink. I'm not a bad person because I drink in public, in an establishment designed for that purpose. You (Hobbs, not Plaid) are passing judgment on people based on one aspect of them.We may have come out of the kitchen, but we still know where the sharp objects are kept.

I think Hobbs means bars as in the sterotype bars with no music outside of juxbox. No food. Just drinks where most people are slump over drunk and hateful. Like Moe's from simpsons.
As for working at one? It still a job. I can't fault him for that. I hate my job. I won't even step into a plaid anymore after what they did to me. Same with mom and a couple of family members. I still go to seven-eleven. I greatly prefer privately owned convience stores, because I like to support small businesses, and the owners are pretty cool. The one that I go to everyday before/after class gave me a free six pack of cherry pepsi (well, six single cherry pepsi cans, but still a six pack) after I got all A's on my final grades. How cool was that? They even order extra grapeheads cause I buy them alot and they ran out. They even showed me some grape flavored candy they wanted to know if they should order for me.
A job is a job. Its better then not working.
Talking to strangers is bad man! They like, have candy and such.
Not all strangers are bad. Two old ladies made me a sandwhich and secretly called the police when I ran away from home and lived in the field by them.
I think Hobb's only problem, is more out of concern for all parties, is the fact that some people may make the impression that one of the people is cheating. Some will do that. Its just a sad fact. Is it wrong to make that? Yeah, but it doesn't mean it isn't true. Some people do cheat. Hell, as far as anyone knew, one of those married woman who does see say, jester for example as nothing more then a friend period, but has indeed cheated before. How would the husband react? She is honestly stating she see's him as friend, but husband just see's her past cheating and can't belive him.
It's a bad belief. I firmly belive that all people are equal, but it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I have plenty of friends that are married dating and I can still hang with them, because their boyfriends/husbands trust them. Alot of woman can be trusted. Thanks for explaining that Plaid. And if you had read my other comments (or my comments in totality) you would have found the answers to your questions.
I cannot be tried by an enemy for murder, if I am captured as a POW. You need to read up on LOAC before you make such fallacious arguments.

It is to their families. Even if someone is killed in action, it still murder in their eyes.Originally posted by Hobbs View PostI cannot be tried by an enemy for murder, if I am captured as a POW. You need to read up on LOAC before you make such fallacious arguments.
Yeah, I know its a technically that its not. But in the grief process, their child/husband/wife/Sibling/Relative is still dead, killed by another person, and in that mindset it is murder pure and simple.Toilet Paper has been "bath tissue" for the longest time, and it really chaps my ass - Blas
