True. Stupid idea really but admitting it didn't pass would just be handing the GOP a freebie they can use for the next 10 years. Even as is they'll be using this one for 5.

Unfortunately, that's probably what will happen. The Democrats have always been accused of flip-flopping on issues when things don't turn out good--remember John "I voted for the war, before I voted against the war, Kerry? What probably will happen, is some voters that would align themselves with the Democrats, might see such things as the party simply doing whatever they have to, to tell voters exactly what they want to hear. In other words, whose interests are they really catering to?

I had a similar debate on Facebook recently. Someone pro-Republican put up some picture about how the Dems had removed god and baby jesus from their congress.

I asked, quite reasonably I thought, if the country was electing a president or a priest. The responses I got in the ensuing back and forth were basically to the extent that the Dems are worse than the Republicans.

It wasn't what I'd call a debate.

You could call that the Fox News effect. Unfortunately they have been promoting a stern "Us vs. them" approach to politics in which everyone on your side are noble good guys and everyone on the other side of aisle are villainous evildoers who are NOT to be trusted or compromised with.
