Why no vests?

So I was watching a show this morning and I realized something that happens in shows that bothers me.

Armed guards with no bullet proof vests. I'm talking about the ones that transport money. I've been to the store when the guards were there to pick up money or drop off. Every single one of them is armed with a side arm and a kevlar vest. Every single time.

On TV shows they always get shot center mass and killed while not wearing a vest. I get it works for the story but it's gonna bug me now that I noticed it.

Anyone else?
