If the results of US elections are any indication, you are the minority in that view (granted a small minority, but a minority non the less)

Fred Phelps IS a lawyer himself, in fact. I once braved the horrors of their web site and did some reading, and it comes down to this: Yeah, they're attention-getters, but what's scary is that Phelps seems to really believe. Believe what? That every problem in the entire world...
-->Climate changes, stealing, wars, terrorism, deaths in Iraq, natural disasters, shootings/violence, EVERYTHING...
...is in one way or another connected to the abomination of homosexuality, which is the single sin that stands above all others. God DESPISES homosexuals, and laughs as they roast in hell. He has a counter showing how many days Mathew Shepard has been bur-- erk, I can't even TYPE this sick shit.

This shit is painful to read. My brain hurts. And I do NOT believe the God in whom I have faith supports this stuff.

Maybe I'm in the minority or something, but my county news and MSNBC have both been surprisingly upbeat lately...

EDIT: Can't wait for the chance to blast 'Poker Face' during a Felps schmo-test.

Me too. I wish more nice people got reported about. (But then they don't bring in the same sort of ratings, I guess.)

Litlle bit before actually. The site went up right after the news of the Montreal School Massacre went public, and the Phelps crew tried to cross the border about 2 weeks later. The site was actually used as evidence to prohibit them from crossing and to institute the permanent ban on anyone from Phelps group, citing potential terrorist activity.

Isn't that about the time the "God Hates Canada" page went up?

They even tried to cross the border into Canada one time. Landed at the airport and was subsequently told if they set foot outside of it, they would be detained and extradited for attempting to incite a riot. Never got past the airport, and to this day, no member of the Phelps clan is permitted in Canada for that very purpose.

That bunch was supposed to come to my hometown to protest the funeral of a local guardsman that died in Iraq. This soldier was my youngest brother's best buddy. The local chief of police was told if he allowed the Phelps bunch to come in then expect a body count. I think the message was relay to them and they didn't show. I have no use for the Klan but in this instance they did right.

I'm also in the "Ignore him and he'll go away" camp.

If I say something batshit crazy, I am ignored. If Phelps says something crazy, he gets press coverage. And it's because he is hateful and cruel and I am not. I think it's sad that all it takes to get attention in this world is to be hateful.

I think they came to my state a few months back, but very little was reported on it.
they were here for the funerals of the ft. hood shooting victims, too. according to a friend who was there to confront them, when confronted by soldiers they ran like cowards, parked their van in parking lot of a restaurant near the cemetery, and tried to continue their protest from there. the restaurant management told them to leave, so they did, but they left the restaurant property on foot, leaving their van, which management then had towed.
