  • COVID-19 and Compassion Fatigue

I swear, I'm getting closer every time I see someone going on about MAH FREEDUMB and not getting vaccinated or even taking basic precautions. I don't know how long it will be before I just snap back "Well then HURRY UP AND DIE so the rest of us can get back to normal!"

I have tried to have some empathy for the people who have been misled by unethical people who use this situation for their own power, but there are soooooo many who have gone full "my tribe best" mode and utterly ignore all of the information they don't like. I'm tired of seeing that crap, and knowing those morons can infect other people who do actually take the disease seriously.

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one. In fact, the rising popularity of the "Herman Caine Award" sub over on Reddit seems to say that I'm far from the only one.

Stupid fucking assholes. Just die already.

Oh believe me, I'm already there. I've been there for quite some time in fact. I can understand the people who wanted to wait and make sure it was safe, but I think we're past that point now. At this point, it's pretty much natural selection, except for the people who can't get vaccinated for whatever reason (under 12, some medical reason, etc.) And that's all the more reason why the people who can get vaccinated should. But apparently putting other people at risk is OK in the name of MAH FREEDUMB!

Worse yet, these idiots seem to think they're actually smart for refusing to get vaccinated. And now, because of them, some places are starting to require masks again. Not only are they uncomfortable, but they're also a depressing reminder that things aren't right. And of course, they're also the ones who complained most about the masks, restrictions, lockdown, etc. But as much as they complain, they're doing everything they can to keep it happening.

During this I'd been working retail but fortunately I'm now back to my preferred office work. I was sick of people's bullshit about a month in.

It's hard to have compassion for the same people that bitched and whined that social distancing was enforced.

Nurses and other medical workers are feeling the same way. They've been on high alert for well over a year, working like crazy to save lives in overfilled hospitals. Now they're dealing with anti-vaxxer patients and their family members who insist they don't have COVID, or they need to be treated with the quack medicine du jour that the various media outlets are touting. The patients and their families are appallingly hostile to the health care workers tending them; some have even been physically violent. And other people who need the hospitals can't get in because they are overflowing with COVID-19 patients, the vast majority of whom wouldn't even be there if they had gotten the vaccination!!!

Medical personnel are quitting in droves, and to be honest, I cannot blame them. That kind of stress isn't healthy for anybody.

I'm sure my mom and my stepdad, a nurse and doctor respectively, are glad they retired years ago. Interestingly enough, they're very right-leaning, and when Obama was in office, every other word out of my stepdad's mouth was "socialism." And quite predictably, they voted for Trump, which they later had second thoughts about, but that's another story. But being in the medical field, neither of them have a lot of sympathy or respect for those who are refusing to get vaccinated.

Unfortunately, the anti-vax rhetoric has become fatal.
