I went without a date to prom. I left ater an hour, though. They kept stoping music cause kids got too close to eachother. People say I would have regret not going. I regret going.
Now for this school to force you to have a date, is ridiculous. Not everyone can get a date for prom.

I never went to my proms I could have cared less. But you would think the school would at least refund the cost of the prom tickets? that seems only fair.
As for not being able to go without a date I think that's ludicrous. She should grab another girl and say that's her date, except I KNOW that wouldn't fly.https://www.youtube.com/user/HedgeTV

I think I know the comments you're talking about.Originally posted by bex1218 View PostQuite hilarious.
Reading through the comments, some people I just want to smack. But thats nothing new, espcially with something dealing with religion.
Yeah don't stand up to unjust rules. Just follow them and keep your mouth shut. After all, they're the authority and all authority should be respected without question.
Good for her. It may not be a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but the rules are stupid and she has the right to fight them. Ass holiness in charge may find that annoying, but they can either deal with it or change their stupid rules.

Is there any *reason* behind the rule, whether valid or not? The article quotes only a portion of the school's response, and does not link to the whole thing, but in what's shown there's no attempt at anything beyond "because we say so."
Which is too nearly typical, but still disappointing. If you don't provide a reason for a rule, it must be assumed that no reason exists."My in-laws are country people and at night you can hear their distinctive howl."

So, they basically say, "We know that the prom is a huge deal to the kids, so we're going to have this artificial barrier of entry for no reason other than to makeextra moneyit extra special by not letting anyone go without a date on their arm.
So... Does that mean that if your date dies between buying tickets and the night of the event, you'll be forced to either find a replacement or sit it out?
It's not as though the girl planned to go without a date. They don't have to worry that she's going solo to hook up with another solo girl and be all gay at their prom or anything.
^-.-^Faith is about what you do. It's about aspiring to be better and nobler and kinder than you are. It's about making sacrifices for the good of others. - Dresden

Something about "traditional norms".Originally posted by HYHYBT View PostIs there any *reason* behind the rule, whether valid or not? Yeah. It serves them right that people are leaving.Originally posted by Crazedclerkthe2nd View PostThis comment on the original article says it all for me:
Really Archdiocese? This is how you operate? No wonder people are leaving your church in droves.

There were two types actually. The one you described and then theres ones saying how in formal occassions you have to bring date. If I go to a wedding and it was formal (I prefer casual myself) do I have to bring a date? If there was a fundraiser dinner at the Ritz, do I have to bring a date? High school for anything, dances and all, should not be about dating. Ever. Its about learning, and not just being taught a subject. High school is where a lot of kids find out who they are and what their life is going to be like. If they have a bf/gf, great. But its not the end of the world if they go to the prom alone.Originally posted by Rageaholic View PostI think I know the comments you're talking about.

I guarantee their reasoning is "If we don't let people go stag, they can't go individually and meet their same-sex dates at the prom!"Originally posted by HYHYBT View PostIs there any *reason* behind the rule, whether valid or not? A truer statement has never been spoken about any religion.
