Which in Hitlers case is paritally true. He did not have the "evil" ideas until he was a homeless person in Vienna in his 20s (???).

IMO considering who the statue is of and where it was placed, it's in bad taste. I know the artist is proud of it and all, but maybe he could be proud of it in his own back yard and not out in the open where it upsets people.

It's not of him as a child, it merely appears that way due to perspective, as far as why it was placed where it was, I'll let the artist speak to that.

The intended purpose of the exhibition, as stated on the art center's official website, is to serve as "an artistic commentary on the Catholic credo. What, in fact, does love thy enemy mean? What does forgive those who trespass against us mean? Evoking the traumas of history, they deal with memory and forgetfulness, good and evil."

Previous works of art include Pope John Paul II being struck by a meteorite, and a statue of a dead horse with a sign reading "INRI" stuck in its side.

The artist wants people to think.

and Poland's chief Rabbi was consulted prior to the statue's installation, he approved it.

Poland's chief rabbi, Michael Schudrich, said he was consulted on the installation's placement ahead of time and did not oppose it because he saw value in the artist's attempt to try to raise moral questions by provoking viewers.

He said he was reassured by curators who told him there was no intention of rehabilitating Hitler but rather of showing that evil can present itself in the guise of a "sweet praying child."

"I felt there could be educational value to it," said Schudrich, who also wrote an introduction to the exhibition's catalogue in which he says art can "force us to face the evil of the world."

It's not really 'out in the open'. You have to look through a hole in a gate to see it.

I do like the concept, but I believe there are no monsters just humans. Humans are much scarier than monsters. Who knows what we'll do next?

I was totally thinking that when I first read this thread. It's because humans have glands.
