I basically thought of posting about this subject after a friend sent me the following video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBahDmCG3B0
It shocked me, but also is very thought provoking. What is the thing we call "humanity"? Is it something that we, as humans, take for granted but is in fact extremely fragile? There are loads of cases of feral children; not just those who were raised by animals, but children like "Genie" who were confined and isolated too, who grew up with little or no human contact so had little or no humanity.
Children who were raised with animals tend to act in an animal like way due to the imitative powers of small children. A baby or toddler is constantly learning from its mother and copying what she does, so it's not a great stretch of imagination that a three year old who was shut outside her house by her neglectful parents would imitate the dogs she ended up living with.

and it's affected me in a way I never dreamed. I can't stop thinking about it. I can even relate to it in a way...I grew up very social isolated...not to the extreme that these kids did but still very isolated none the less. It's like it hit home for me.
