The TSA has a pubic blog where they say how many guns were found in airports in America that week. Also how many were loaded and how many had rounds chambered. Every week, the most common excuse is "I forgot about it". I'm going to go ahead and call BS. How do you forget you have a gun/explosive in your bag?

Well, his excuse is that it was meant to blow up an old shed. Considering he missed the fact that the shed which is supposed to be gone is still there leads me to believe he is in no way observant enough to notice the explosive in his bag.

For the general question: anything you carry all the time, to the point it's habitual, is easy notvyo think of.

In this case, it sounds more like the first time in a new winter you put your hands in your coat pocket and find something you'd forgotten about since spring.

Another (since closed) forum I used to frequent had one member in the military (demolitions specialist) who used a convenient-sized bag as his carryon. The "swab and sniff" went nuts, so the screeners visually examined the bag and its contents. Nothing suspicious, so they asked him what he had carried in the bag the last time he had used it. His response: "A couple Claymores, 10 pounds of C4, ..." Needless to say, that was the last time he used that particular bag as a carry-on.

Working with explosives makes it hell going through airports. I have specific pairs of shoes I don't even bring with me through airports.

This kid is making bombs, he is used to carrying them around with him and is obviously way to careless and stupid to be allowed near them.

However my issue is less with that than the performance of the airport who didn't arrest or detain him.

Back when you couldn't carry ANY liquids on a plane, I boarded one with just that in my right front jeans pocket. It was a small, glass vial with essential oil that I use for migraines. I carried it everywhere, so naturally I forgot about it.

The TSA agent missed it on the patdown (I got picked randomly for one). I found it later after I passed security and realized what had happened.

That's when I realized what a joke the TSA is.

The vial was glass, so a metal detector would never find it. The vial held 1 oz of fluid; I'm not sure even a full body scanner would have picked it up, even without the human factor.
