  • Con explodes.

So I'm checking twitter today and a webcomic artist is posting some interesting things.

    https://twitter.com/choochoobear/sta...30065783734272
this is the first tweet I saw, a recap of a converstaion wtih WOTC about a con that is claiming them as a sponsor but they are not sponsoring.

more tweets appear about this con
    https://twitter.com/JHolderBennett/s...30963155177472
    we now have a hashtag
    https://twitter.com/hashtag/OmegaExposed?src=hash

    and currently http://www.omegaexpo.me/

    has this message: (bolding mine)
HOUSTON, Mar. 16, 2015 — Omega Expo has terminated all business connections with Jeffrey Scott Smith.

Smith, who represented himself as “Scott Smith” mismanaged talent bookings, and fabricated information both about Omega Expo and his background.

Omega Expo was not aware of Smith’s background and does not take the crimes of promoting prostitution or libel lightly and acted swiftly as soon as they became aware.

Because of these developments some of the talent that were originally scheduled to appear at Omega Expo have canceled their appearances and Omega Expo offers their sincere apologies to these individuals.

Omega Expo has issued full refunds to any individuals who may be uncomfortable with these developments and would like to assure the public that they are still dedicated to bringing a quality show to Houston on Nov. 6-8, 2015.
you may now enjoy the train wreck currently in progress.

At least the subject line isn't literal.

I saw the first of this on tumblr yesterday and face palmed heartily. The promoters were also claiming that Tom Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Tom Hiddleston would be in attendance...which they most certainly will NOT be, even before this all came to light.

I wonder if anybody who bought tickets already will actually ever receive those promised refunds. I shouldn't hold my breath though because I'm sure the answer will be 'not fucking likely'.

The title has a double meaning with the word "con"

Maybe they could offer an extra hour in the ball pit?

That is what was running through my mind when I first started seeing tumblr posts about the Omega Expo scam.

I know that getting a brand new con up and running is hard work, but to advertise big name talent that isn't secured is a sure fire way to shoot a new con in the foot. To claim to have booked an event site only to have said event site say that there is no such thing, yeah not good. Everything points to 'scam' in this instance, and I hope to hell that nobody got taken for huge amounts of money in buying tickets to the thing.
