Fill in your blanks. Like "If Obama gets elected, I'm moving to Canada/Australia/England!" or some load of crap like that. Either make good with your "threat" or shut up. Dear God, I don't want to hear about how if you don't get your whiny way, you'll leave the country unless you'll actually do it. I mean, if you genuinely want to, that's cool, I have no problem with it. Go for it. But don't just say it because you are unhappy with the way something is going.

Thank you. I know enough people from each end of the spectrum that I'm always hearing both sides of it, and I wanna tell them "Seriously, you're going to abandon everyone and everything you know, rather than work to fix things, just because of X?" But I can't, 'cause either they get pissy, or they don't understand what I mean. Don't ask how. I dunno either.

Well, in my case, I really would love to live in a place with a more liberal government and a greater appreciation of the arts. It's really frustrating for me sometimes, feeling like so few people share my values in things that are important to me: civil rights, national health care, more gun control, greater reproductive rights, a ministry (or cabinet) of culture (or art) and so on. But there are a great many impediments to moving, and even then gaining citizenship in some of these places takes a lot of time and a lot of money. So, I sit here in Kansas hoping that one day things will change and we'll actually join the 21st century with the rest of the western world.

And as I said, it's cold in Canada. I don't even like Midwestern winters. Brr.

Luckily, I live in the only liberal town in the entire gosh-darn state, so it's pretty tolerable. Except when the state government considers turning down stimulus money because they might *gasp* have to spend it on higher education. *^^*^%&^* Western Kansas.

An appreciation of the arts is nice, but what would be the value in having a government department or agency dedicated to arts, culture, etc.? Even though I do fall to the left on some things, I'm having a hard time seeing how that's necessary.

And the best one I have heard has got to be the "If Obama passes Public health care, I'm moving to Canada." For two reasons:

1. A complete lack of foresight in that statement and
2. Said person assumes his presence would be tolerated here anyway.

They usually assess worthy projects to receive funding, help organize large-scale events, that kind of thing.

Exactly. I mean, yes, we do have the National Endowment for the Arts, but they're underfunded and don't have a whole lot of impact. The lack of arts appreciation is frustrating not only since I work in the arts, but also because I know the benefits of live theatre, music, visual art....learning self-expression.
