  • Holiday bundle (many things of this nov/dec)

personal disclaimer: its november and december, awesome, I am all for celebrating the holidays with family and being in good spirits. Mostly trying to keeping most of the bah humbug attitude to myself or keeping busy so that it doesn't come out. HOWEVER its the feeling of what is has become now that is my issue.

That with each year christmas stuff in stores is put out earlier and earlier like thanksgiving doesn't exist. i went looking for thanksgiving scrap booking stuff and it was two weeks before thanksgiving and it was either gone or already marked down and shoved in the back corner and i thought WTF (same with most stores)

That people go apeshit and make themselves miserable over black friday. no thanks I don't feel like dying for this inanimate object that is great and possibly makes life better or daily stuff better (some toy or kitchen thing) but I'm not getting up at the arse crack of dawn or whenever to stand out in the cold and get sick and then battle off other psycho's for this. NOR have to see the poor employees who I commend for surviving this have to deal with your pathetic attitude either

The whole general public attitude of how I gotta buy this shit cause it would be an awesome gift for me, or (insert important person here) and so on. and then bitch at the employee for whatever reason such as it should be cheaper or you aren't perfectly satisfied or they looked at you wrong and go on your merry way as if everything is spiffy and you never said a harsh word. See any excuse and EW can get they will molest to their advantage.

Or the general craze of there are so many shopping days left until christmas. SO? If you can that shit taken care of at the beginning of november via lay away or I dunno when there were actual SALES and not this psuedo-sale for the holidays thing going on which in some places is actually a mark up (when compared with actual price, quantity of product versus how much i need or will use etc) This is not against people who cannot do such due to whatever financial reason or such options are not available as its understood not everyone can do that. I did it because I really did not want to deal with such insanity and I chose to become a hermit because of what happened around this time of year to me.

I feel that I saw this coming. I feel that even before the economy isssue down (not going into that just the whole mess of it) happened that november and december would become this massive commercialism menagerie charade etc to just go crazy with commercials on tv and ads and everything to sell out for the holidays and push products that either aren't that great or because we need money. And have people gripe about bills that they knew would come or that its ok to overspend and go further in debt because I as a consumer cannot manage myself or have self control etc.

Every january is another gripe about omg look at this bill. well what did you think would happen the new year would whisk it away like its nonresistant. Riiiight. not even getting into new years resolutions

This in no way excuses my poor attitude towards this mind you. I became sour to this time of the year due to seeing family take these actions and become EW's and SC's and worse over something for themselves or because they NEEDED it for someone when that someone really didn't care or would be just as happy with something hand made. (hell give me socks, I WILL use them and enjoy it and send thank you notes because i like having clothes)
Because of what has happened in the past 6-8 years during this time. The year of the no christmas, the year that my biological father's family proved themselves rich assholes and should all DIAF, the year that we were reminded that even thought granny loved us we were not worthy of ever contacting her. and then the year i lost my child and wanted to literally rip out my innards. and everyone around me each time was telling me i should celebrate and be merry because its christmas. if that were so easy to do then i would have done so

Now. allow me to politely remind those reading, yes thanksgiving is great, so is christmas its the holidays please be merry but please don't tell me about your shopping spree just tell me when the family is meeting and that you will go and see them or at least call or something. Or that if nothing else the best of the situation was made.

Tsk, right? I left the house on Black Friday once when I was a teenage to get a cookie jar my aunt mentioned (Christmas present).

    Never again... *shudder*

Dude, I went to pick up candy on Halloween, and they were already decorated for CHRISTMAS! And taking the Halloween candy away to put in Christmas stuff.

I'm becoming rather Grinchy myself this year.

I'm not even getting to go home for Thanksgiving. The only real special thing about it is that Fiance has a couple of days off (but not enough time or money to drive down to see family). I'll probably be putting a tree up over the break.

I admit that on Thanksgiving while the fiance is cooking I will be putting up Christmas lights, but not because I'm a Christmas whore like so many people are... I just like lights and any excuse to put them up
My mom's boyfriend especially this year hates black friday, because he was looking forward to going to an art exhibit down in Orem while he was visiting... thanks to logistics the only day we could go is Friday, and then in the morning and said art exhibit is in the University mall which means that we will likely have to call it a no-go. It looks like a really cool exhibit too, it's about the art of the Chinese cultural revelution and it's only going through the end of the year.

The only redeeming value of this time of year, we do have a large number of relay users who are saying that on Thanksgiving they will deal with the limitations of communication that are imposed on them without using relay if they can so that the interpreters will have a chance to see their families as well (of course then there are the deaf people who don't view us as human, we are just the living machine that reads what they say and type responses back to them).

Black Friday blows my mind. People camp outside of malls and stores and literally kill each other over the right to be the first one inside a store. Crazed maniacs. Nothing is worth that. I always go a couple weeks before Christmas when stores get a new shipment after Black Friday and guess what? Prices are cheap then.

I just wish I was going to be home for Christmas to see my family instead of going for training for Afghanistan.

            I hate everything about winter.

I don't have a tree, and hope I never have to put one of those hideously ugly things up unless I am decorating a palm tree or some other dry plant outside down south in the 80 degree weather in my tank top and shorts instead of freezing to death and having to drive home in several inches of snow on the worst of days for the weather to be that shitty.

Thursday is going to be great. Several inches of snow predicted tomorrow into Thursday, I have to drive back to my parents' house, which will only make my trip just a bit longer, but we have to go UP NORTH back home home 50 miles away, where there will easily be twice as much snow. It always snows more up north than here. Roads will be trecherous, and I have to get up early on top of it all.

            Sorry, I have to bitch.

Back on topic, most years I don't do my Christmas shopping until the weekend before Christmas because stuff is already on clearance, and last year it was because of too much overtime, I literally didn't have enough hours in a complete day off to do something like Christmas shop until nearly the 20th.

have agreed to help put up the plastic tree. all (except me) in the house are allergic to pine and refuse to sweep up the needles so works for me.
plus plastic tree has bendable branches so i can make the bottom two layers lift up to keep the rugrats from the ornaments. heh the tree will look weird this year

beyond that dad won't hang lights, nothing on the door, nothing outside. and it has been said and agreed that whatever we need that has not been bought on wednesday thats just too bad cause we will just have to starve or do without the next two days.

forgot to mention the whole now stores are open thanksgiving (used to be until 2pm, now its 4pm if not later) and open christmas day. EXCUSE ME? what the f*** is so damn important you have, HAVE to be open that day so that people miss spending time with families or are on tech support (yes i saw that tech support commercial from best buy about being available x-mas day) aww poor comp not work too bad wait until the 26th or 27th to deal with it. again are people so poorly managed that they cannot go one day without running to the stores for food or what not so that retailers are now open on christmas. oh hellllll no
I volunteered one year in retail to be on the christmas crew and i loathed every customer that said anything about us being open.
From the oh why are you open you should be home with your family! (then why the hell are you here shopping. take your own advice and GO HOME)
to ha ha you have to work. (HA HA I get tripple over time! and only have to put up with your less than stellar wit. ooo-wah)

i miss places being closed so that family bonding was forced heh. i may not like my extended family but back then i bonded one way or another or remained shut in my room
rant rant rant. that and i MUST be suffering from some mental issue because i'd rather be back in the hospital bed with iv's in both arms than deal with the outside world this year. yes that really did happen

              Yeah we're so over, over

Black Friday is so overhyped it's ridiculous. It's consumerism consumerism, and more consumerism. I don't need or want anything, nor would I expect people to spend hundreds of dollars on me. If I really wanted something I'd buy it myself. That's why I don't believe in gift giving... unless it's money...

A couple of years ago, the tradition to bring out the fake palm tree in a corner of my living room was started. It became such a pain in the ass to have to drag out the Christmas tree from the shed, then drag it back out once Christmas was over with, that we had enough and just used the palm tree instead.

This way, the only dragging I have to do is to move the palm tree from the corner to in front of the fire place, hook up the lights around the trunk, and put some fancy bulbs on the limbs. After Christmas, the bulbs come down, the tree gets unplugged, then dragged back to the corner. Much easier, don't have to worry about bringing the Christmas tree in or out.

I don't go out for Black Friday unless it's going to work or going to the gym. I have no reason whatsoever to be buying any type of crap on that day, most if not all of my stuff I get throughout the year. If there's something that *has* to be purchased as close as possible to Christmas [candy, maybe gift cards, etc], then I'll wait until a certain time to do so. Otherwise, I either buy stuff during the year or hand-make it.

I also don't ask for much, either. I just want money, a Visa gift card, a gift card to a bookstore, or dragon-themed stuff. That way I can get what I want without having to return anything.

Kaeli...that is actually a very good idea...sadly not sure if a palm tree would survive the muggy weather here

forgot all about this. hubs comes home monday morning from work and informs family that he was asked to work thursday night friday morning shift overtime. i got mad because his bosses are always asking him and not others. i slept on it and realized that his bosses find him more trustworthy and responsible even if it is over time. however there is a story behind that of a rant for another day
so i told him its his call if he wants to take it just be safe please.
today i lent him my armor to test out and adjust as needed so that come black friday midnight he has some protection. holy crud.

i won't be watching the news i will be calling at 6:50am to make sure he is alive. or having dad in law drive me there screw the dumb stuff

*nods* I totally agree. When I was a kid it was you had a month of everyone talking about Thanksgiving and how awesome it was going to be to see Aunt Carol again and your cousin Bobby is gonna be there and *squeee* he is so awesome cuz he let's you play with his remote control car.

Now you hear about Thanksgiving almost as an after thought.

Though I must admit that this year I will be contributing to the evil that is Black Friday. My friend has been trying to sell his bicycle for money for a uhm well let's call it the first step across the gender barrier and so I came up with the crazy whacko idea that me and him should go stand on a street corner on Black Friday and sell it.

                      For this I do apologize.

I rather like the idea of Buy Nothing Day, even though I know it's an exercise in futility.

Alas, I have to work on Black Friday. And if it's like last year, there will be lines to the back of the store and wrapping around the wall, all three cut table stations and all three registers will be going non-stop, fabric bolts will be piled up to the ceiling and nobody will be available to take them back to the shelves (or able to fight through the throngs of people to put them back on the shelves!). The customers will complain about having to wait in line (Lines on Black Friday?! Wow, who'd'a thunk it?! ), will complain about not having brought their coupons and can't we just give them the discount anyway, will demand that we cut their fabric at the register because they "don't want to wait in that long line!" And the fabric store will probably be mild compared to stores like VoldeMart and Bullseye.

::sigh:: It is insanity. Sheer, bloody-minded, utter insanity. All I can do is hope and pray there aren't any more Jdimytai Damours this year.

well as I had said, barring a medical emergency I refuse to go out on friday. Heh
Daughter had a medical emergency so a good four hours was spent in ER and then about 30 in the store waiting on the script to be filled and getting some soy for daughter....
come monday there will be a pediatrician and health unit to visit....grrr

I love thanksgiving...it's the one day that I go all out on food and have a great feast. It's sad to see it skipped by.

Now Black Friday I do NOT do. I went to no store that day, but did do some christmas shopping in my local holiday bazaare in the local grange hall. And that was crowded as hell also...but at least it was local and not a typical retail setup.
