  • Hating New Pokemon

This really bothers me. People hating on new pokemon. I mean, I don't have a problem with picking and choosing, that I'm down with. My problem is saying, sight unseen, that all pokemon after Generation [#] are stupid.

    Just comparing starters

Generation 1 had a flaming lizard, a dinosaur with a flower on its back, and a turtle with guns.

Generation 2 was a flaming porcupine, a... Whatever the fuck... With a leaf on its head, and an angry lizard.

Generation 3 was an orange chicken, a lizard chewing on a twig, and an Axolotl

Generation 4 was a turtle with a forest on its back, a flaming monkey, and blue penguin.

How are any of these lamer than a smug looking snake, a wrestling pig, and an otter that looks like he got lost on the way to Animal Crossing.

I'm fine with not liking things, but don't act like this is anything but nostalgia making you say all pokemon after [Generation] are lame. Because all pokemon have ALWAYS been lame. Lame and oddly badass, but lame. That's the POINT of them. They're WEIRD.

They're not running out of ideas. Their ideas were ALWAYS this stupid. You're just older.

I haven't played anything since silver and gold. I've played Red, Yellow, and Silver. Never got to the Diamond, or Platinum, or Green or whatever the hell they are on now. Though, now that I think about it, I need something to do while out here. Guess it's time to spend money!

Frankly I never liked the concept in general. Here we have creatures with powers and abilities that in some cases could rip apart the fabric of space and time.

And we send children to go out and capture them for the sole purpose of chucking them into an arena to duke it out for silly prizes?

That the "Villains" are there to steal the most powerful one just so they can have it.

Makes you wonder what would happen if some of these children were sociopaths. What would stop the children from deciding that duking it out in the arena was a waste of time and so why not use the "Flaming Chicken Beast of Doom" to knock over the candy store and cut out the middle man.

Ideally I'd love to see a Pokemon game for the people of my generation. Something like a mashup between Quake 3 Arena and Pokemon.

I am just annoyed that this came out before the 3DS. I traded in my DSi to get a discount on the new unit.

And that I can't pick which one to get.

feels more of the "don't knock it until you've seen/tried it"
having grown up with pokemon and seen the characters grow up etc, after so long it DID start to get lame and old like the creators were trying too hard. However since 1995 they are STILL around and still somewhat successful. thats more than i can say for digimon, beanie babies and a few other fads that looked like they really would last.

i live with a pokemon fanatic and from day one that it was announced black and white was coming out he counted the months down, then weeks and so on.
and me, about the last three weeks before its release and about the time the preorder was put in, got pulled back in.
I admit after the second generation i grew tired of the newer versions feeling that this is old and they are dumb/lame I don't want to play. After finishing pokemon yellow with the talking pikachu i was done. (and having gained a sadistic streak i did mean things to make pikachu make noise)

and now at about, fifth generation i have been recaptured. only they put ALOT into it. almost a week into it and i just barely got to the third town? hubs got almost over halfway through and just now got the strategy guide...
anywho yeah, they are kind of lame. one of the pokemon and its evolution are garbage, literally. a leaky looking trashbag, and its evolution is a pile of walking garbge. another one with its two evolutions is supposed to be some kind of goth pokemon? a cross between goth and goth loli... and there are weirder ones too

          yeah
Repeat after me, "I'm over it"
          Yeah we're so over, over
Things I hate, that even after all this time...I still came back to the scene of the crime

This. To me (I know I'm gonna get some crap for this) the pokemon games are like the kingdom hearts games, there are only a couple of changes with each new one but they're still fun. The version exclusive stuff really sucks though, black=black city and white=white forest. Oh well, I still like it cause it's fun.

Nitpicking: Chikorita (Gen II Grass Starter) is based off of a Sauropod (dinosaur). Also Oshawott isn't a bad starter, the final form is a Sea lion with a huge ass sword.

I will partially agree about the "running out of ideas" with the newest generation however. Most of the Pokemon from Gen I-IV are fine. Gen V (latest) however is a bit....well here's the list of stupid pokemon.

Scraggy/Scrafty-apparaently meant to be based off of hip-hop culture combined with a lizard. Scrafty looks like a rooster. (the animation for Scraggy always makes me lol because it's constantly pulling its"pants" up)
Trubbish/Garbodor-A garbage bag. Yes, literally a garbage bag (its evolution is what happens when a Slash splits the bag open ).
Vanilite/Vanilish/Vanilluxe: Based off of vanilla ice-cream, being a kids cone, a waffle cone and a double-scoop cone respectively. The concept sucks, but they're not bad for ice types.
Cubchoo/Beartic: Doesn't suck so much, but it makes me wonder why it took them 5 generations to come up with a POLAR BEAR for an ice-type.
Timburr/Gurdurr/Conkeldurr: Meant to resemble bears or something....carrying lumber, a girder and something else respectively.
Gothita/Gothorita/Gothitelle: Meant to be based off of people wearing gothic lolita clothing...-_-
Klink/Klang/Klinklang: Gears. Based on gears. Each evolution adds a couple more on. (in terms of gaming though, they have a seriously decent move known as Gear Grind which can do a LOT of damage)
Litwick/Lampent/Chandelure: A candle, Lamp and Chandelier respectively. Decent fighting pokemon but the design SUCKS.
Stunfisk: I seriously have no idea what this is meant to be. (apparaently a flounder/manta ray?)
Bouffalant: Obviously a buffalo, but I swear every time I see it, I start imaging some 70's porn star.

I'm liking Oshawott so far. I was a rabid Pokemon fan with the first games, got bored for a while, now I picked up Black for the hell of it and have been sucked right back in.

For me, it was always something to kill time. Pokemon had a fairly entertaining story for me, even if the "message" about fighting and nature had more tosses and turns than a cruise ship in the middle of a category 5 hurricane.

I havn't played since my red version got wet one day, I had a kick ass mewtwo that murdered the final bosses, all by himself, I wonder if any of the people who copied with the old glitch back in the day still have him. Other than that, yeah it got pointless real fast.

One I discovered by accident today.....

Take a GOOD long look at Castform (from Generation III). Here's the artwork...

Now is it just me or does Castform look like he/she/it has testicles? Or boobs.

Yes I know, I'm THAT immature.

Also since we have Gen VI coming up (pokemon X and Y), here's my take on the six or seven pokemon we have released so far:

Chespin (grass-type starter): I cannot tell if it's meant to be a chipmunk or a hedgehog.
Fennekin (fire-type starter): Fennec fox. VERY cute.
Froakie (water-type starter): OK, I'm going to keep this simple...WHY did it take so long to have a FROG as a starter type Pokemon?

Xerneas: Looks very pretty. It's also making me consider getting X should I ever decide to upgrade to a 3DS. But I'll see what version-exclusive types it has first*.
Yveltal: ? Apparently it's meant to have three arms. W.T.F.

Sylveon: yet ANOTHER form of Eevee. There's rumours going around that it's a Flying type since they're running out of types for Eevee (Normal to either Fire, Water, Electric, Psychic, Dark, Grass or Ice, whenever I get an Eevee I go for either the Water, Psychic or Dark types).

There's also apparently a new forme for Mewtwo. Which, while I normally wouldn't hate on new Pokemon, is making me wonder just how much they're actually going to release given that they seem to be hell-bent on giving Legendary Pokemon so many damn forms (seriously, in the current generation, Keldeo, Meloetta, Tornadus, Thundurus, Landorous and Kyurem can all change forms by different means: Keldeo and Meloetta change through use of moves**, Tornadus, Thundurus and Landorus change through use of a key item, while Kyurem changes with a held item AND either Reshiram or Zekrom in the party)

*=Generally I look for either which version has more Pokemon overall first. otherwise, I settle for which version has more water and grass types.

**=Meloetta is taught a particular move which when used, damages the Pokemon and also changes her forme AND her type. Keldeo can be taught a particular move under certain conditions. When he is taught said move, he shifts form and REMAINS in that form until you forget said move.

OK, having said all of that, here are five things I want to see in the new generation of games:

-Pokemon typing combinations that ACTUALLY MAKE SENSE. By this I mean that you don't give a fish a ground/electric type (ie Stunfisk). In a similar vein, while I don't normally hate on Gyarados, I do NOT understand why it's part flying-type. Similar vein, ground/flying.

-Allowing the legendary Pokemon to be caught AND required to progress in the storyline. The way they handled this in Black and White was absolutely brilliant. Everywhere else just seems like you need to seal the Pokemon away to stop whatever chaos is occurring and if you don't catch it, you're SOL.

-Bringing back more interactive options with your Pokemon. I loved the contests and the Pokemon Studios. I hope that they bring back at least one of them.

-Keeping the unique designs for each gym on the OUTSIDE. I loved how for instance, the Aspertia Gym was the school (fitting for a beginner), the Nacrene Gym was a museum and the Nimbasa Gym was in a theme park.

-The option for players to NOT have to keep mashing the A button when buying drinks from the vending machine. It gets annoying after a while when you're trying to purchase 10 lemonades. (this is why in the Driftveil Markets, I go NUTS on MooMoo Milk)

For the most part, a lot of the new pokemon look incredibly similar. They all have the same angular features and "armor" for lack of a better word. I don't get the sense of unique creativity from them that I got from the original 150 or so. I think by this point the creators are running out of ideas for new "looks" so a lot of stuff gets recycled.
