  • Ideological Martyrs

There's this trend with people who have outdated views to think that they are trying to save the world. Typically, most people reject their views as barbaric, outdated, or even dangerous. Unfortunately, this gives more fuel for those who want to express those views to act like martyrs. They know that their ideas are going to alienate most people, but they are willing to be hated, not because they are nuts, but because they are the only ones willing to stand for "the truth". (what ever that is).

I just want to smack these people. They are so sure of themselves, and so sure that everyone else is too stupid to form their own opinions. While there are cases where unpopular opinions should win over (Martin Luther King), a lot of the time, there's a good reason the pundits views are unpopular.

It's a particularly severe sort of rose-colored glasses - not only are they pining for a bygone era, they're pining for one that never actually existed.

That's one of the things I loved about the book The Outsiders.

You have the greasers who in every other medium are just lovable delinquent scamps with hearts of gold.

Not the poor kids who are scrapping around for every opportunity they can get because they come from bad backgrounds aren't being given a fair shot.
