I met my girlfriend on line and she's whole continents away (until October! **happy dance**)

So our 'dates' tend to be a bit odd and varied. Most of the time it's just us chatting on Skype. Sometimes, we'll sync Netflix and watch a movie together. Sometimes we'll game together on XBox.

Recently, we discovered that a private online session of GTA V was perfect date material. We could chat via our headsets as our avatars did everything from walking on the beach, taking pictures, getting matching tattoos, getting drunk, watching a movie, stealing cars, joyriding, and just hanging out in my virtual apartment.

When she gets here in Octobor, our first official 'in person' date will probably be walking on a beach, followed by extensive planned activities at Disneyland, Universal, the Zoo, Alcatraz, etc. etc.

I've never been real big on the 'dressing up and going out' dating scene. I'd rather someone talk to me and connect on a personal level, doing what we both enjoy doing, than feeling as if one or the other must spend money in order to impress the other. I understand not everyone's idea of dating is the same as mine, and that's fine-whatever is right for a couple is what is right for that couple, even if it isn't what is right for the next.

My dream in person date would be pizza followed by a Halo or Left 4 Dead marathon, or maybe burning through episodes of The Big Bang Theory or Fringe on Netflix. Or, perhaps, if the weather is nice, going out and taking photos or maybe hitting a restaurant or a movie. Fortunately, I am with someone who feels much the same

That's quite creative. I like it! But any disagreements must turn pretty EPIC!

City of Heroes used to be a good place to virtual date. With all of the "dating sim" filler in the last GTA, though, I imagine it would be pretty good.

My only first date I've ewveer had involved a copy of PotC a bottle of mead and a Baileys chocolate cheesecake I made for her, and her couch.
I am a sexy shoeless god of war!
Minus the sexy and I'm wearing shoes.

My "official" first date with my boyfriend had the two of us booking out a backpackers hostel room in the CBD for a day and watching movies together, while we "cavorted" around in bed. (we'd done a few unofficial dates beforehand, but neither of us were ready to do the "Meet the parents" thing.)
Luckily for us, said room was right near a pizza joint to boot.

We're now looking at booking that room again for another fun time, even though he's on his own in the house now...

I don't think the decline of the traditional date is due to laziness so much as due to the advance of technology and social media. Its less and less likely that you don't know much about your date these days so dating as a traditional courtship / fact finding mission is falling out of the vogue so to speak. Couple that with a rise of atypical dating activities and a decline in the wine & dine lets both act our absolute best lest we ruin this sort of dating scenario. -.-

Thank you we have fun with it. Fortunately, so far, the only attacks we've landed on each other were completely accidental. Nothing quite so romantic as 'whoops, babe, didn't mean to shoot you...I was aiming for the cop!'

Sort of. It was up the road from it, although the company owns both places. We had to go into the building next to dominos to get our room key, but the rest is entirely self-contained. It felt odd though having a sink in the room yet no shower or toilet.

I would love to have a getaway or hotel thing to do with a guy, but it'd have to be after we were officially dating, the only exception being if we were long distance or he traveled for work.

Wow, my first date with my husband sounds so boring now.

It was to see "Godzilla 2000" in a theater...

My and Kabe's first date was to see Casino Royale in theatres. So nothing wrong with movie dates

Yeah...I still don't get where people are getting that I'm implying their dates were "boring" or not good enough, or why anyone's thinking I am demanding a 5 star restaurant and a Broadway show on a first date and will not date anyone who doesn't blow a bunch of money on me right away on a date. I really don't. But.....ooook. After I already explained that we don't even really have that around here, and that it's just my plain belief that I don't think "hanging out" at a guy's house is a real date (in MY opinion) and that I'd much rather be somewhat impressed, meaning a guy take initiative and take me somewhere to eat and be out in public with me, make it worth getting out of the house for. There's entire relationships to never leave the house sitting watching Netflix.

When Toth and I were dating, we were both fairly poor. But not too poor to get a supermarket chicken, some lovely fresh bread from a neighbourhood bakery, some drinks (also from the supermarket!), and a blanket. If we were doing really well, we'd get some nice cheeses from the supermarket deli too! And perhaps some bakery desserts. And we'd go have a picnic. Toth made a point of finding nice (but free!) places to have picnics.

A friend of the family loves to cook, and will have dinners with us or others. If she were to organise a date, it'd be more likely to be a dinner that she cooked than a meal out at a restaurant: but hey, she cooks well!
