  • "I have declaired myself to be an independant oversight of a YouTube Channel

And I am ineffectual." Well actually they have zero powers over the channel and it's members, they just point out their flaws.

There is a YouTube channel and affiliates that I watch called the YogsCast, they attracted a younger crowd due to their minecraft content and more specifically their on hiatus machinima Shadow of Israphel.

Prior to this influx of younger subscribers, the core duo used to be more lax in their speech and swore frequently or just chewed the fat about anything and everything in podcasts or over a game of WoW and did sincerely make an effort to tone it down due to the kiddies, though with some games or minecraft maps (especially jumping puzzles) it was not always a sure fire thing.

The difference between Simon (the main draw and more frequent swearer) being frustrated and not swearing and later on in another challenging map (iir the dropper) cursing up a storm dying was as plane as can be, he spent more effort biting his tongue for a make believe PG rating that a lot of people thought he lost some of his comedic touch, not to say that his schtick was to just say piss and fuck all the time, but once he took the gag out he could resume talking about any old bollocks that came to mind instead of going "no cant say that what about the children watching?" Especially if they were playing a game that might have an age rating to buy.

The self appointed 'mods' of the Yogscast run a tumbler and list videos and relevant trigger warnings to say "this video contains x,y or z" but most people who watch the videos watch them when they hit not via this tumbler, so its kinda redundant, if hearing certain words is going to offend you then them saying "Oh by the way that video you just watched, they said Retarded in it." is met with a suitable "Well Duh, I know I heard it."

I occasionally visit their tumbler when 'drama' arises to see how far down the rabbit hole it goes, their heart is in the right place, but more than half the time I feel their heads are up their arses.

Someone asked a question and the reply said "Please refrain from using ableist language, thank-you." then answered the question in hand without addressing what was the 'ableist' word till the original poster asked.

Dumb is the word and they even starred out the U, citing that yes it once was a word to mean someone who couldn't talk now sometimes refered to as mute, I have never used dumb to refer to someone who cannot speak and have only heard it in context (outside of problematic) in a 70's or 80's biopic of Helen Keller, maybe it was never a big word in the UK or was out of fashion when I was growing up, to me it always has and always will mean stupid.

And as TV's have a Mute button, it would not surprise me if Mute then becomes taboo as you can unmute a TV and some child somewhere might innocently wave the remote at their sibling hitting the button going "Why wont you talk!?!"

I get that "that's retarded" and "that's gay" are the wrong words to use when calling things stupid or lame (and there I go offending people like myself who cant walk properly), but dumb? as stated dumb never had that meaning when and where I grew up, it was and always will be stupid.

So I feel their Social injustice crusade to be ineffectual and of times petty, I will grant that there are times where they or an affiliate channel might say something a bit more 18 rated, hell Hat Films make a point of trash talking each other during their games and I have lost count of the times they have said one of the members has a vagina and the long and short of it is if you are going to be offended by words, don't ever watch their stuff as chances are they will use one or more from your list (and I feel sometimes out of spite towards that tumbler account) they like most others batch record so a joke might run over multiple episodes from a 2 hour recording session, we had Jenkum month in Trials Evolution and Vietnamese landmines a (afaik made up) variant of Cleveland steamer.

Honestly their content is not suitable for children and I am always reminded of "Talk Back", a TV show to address when shows say or do the wrong things before and after the watershed, my dad called it "nibble ankles" as it held no sway with any channel or the governing body.
"My son saw the movie X and I was appalled that he started using swear words because of it."

"What was your son doing up at 1am on a school night watching this movie?"
The game The Yawgh is the reason why I ventured back into the rabbit hold as either due to a missing S on she or entering His instead of Her, one encounter you can have in the slums is with a prostitute who is identified as a woman, next screen the text is written with male descriptors, then back again to a woman for the next screen, basically a typeo or a proof reading oopsie.

"Wait, I thought he was a woman." or words to that effect said the guy whos character's turn it was.
"Maybe she's a Ladyboy" again all paraphrased, there was a collective laugh at this point, but it went across different levels, the someone says something they shouldn't and you laugh uncomfortably is the vibe I most picked out of them though, there was no "OMG CHIX WIV DIX" or other such crassness, the game had a wrongly worded paragraph, or the random encounter could be male or female from the start and the code had the wrong text pulled up and it frankly took them by surprise.
"Oh, oh well." he said more or less cool with the idea and moved on as if nothing had happened.

Hanna posted a reply to them about the video saying that Ladyboy is NOT a transgender label as it's an English translation of the Thai work Kathoey who are a 3rd sex. It was not coined to describe transgendered in a derogatory way, though I will grant that porn search terms and general usage have skewed it towards that definition.

    Edit:
I have just remembered struck dumb and dumbstruck which in this instance mean shocked into silence, or another way of putting it; at a loss for words, but I cant recall when I used either phrase
