Not to mention he's citing disasters that happened decades ago which predate many technological advances that improved safety. Airplane crashes and widespread city-destroying fires were also more commonplace in decades or centuries past that aren't as common today... soooo... yeah.

yes and no. IIRC, he was out for all practical purposes (as in, wasn't realistically going to get the nomination) quite early on, but didn't actually formally quit the race until much later.
