I can also see Plaid's point. I have no problem with waitresses/waiters/etc. being nice and friendly. But flirting and groping me and touching my hair? Oh HELL no. I think it's inappropriate, Hooters or otherwise. Perhaps a little more inappropriate in Hooters, depending on how blatant the waitress is [since it is family-friendly...]. Bars are another story, but still. I wouldn't want anyone flirting with me and fawning over me just because they happen to be the one serving me.

    From Wiki
In February 2010, it was revealed that the chain was for sale and that it could sell for $250 million.
how many members in NOW and how much would they all have to stump up to buy em into changing their ways

    edit:
In December 2010, as part of the settlement of Robert H. Brooks' estate, a judge in Horry County, South Carolina approved the sale of Hooters of America Inc. to Wellspring Capital Management. The decision would not prevent Charlotte, North Carolina-based Chanticleer Investors LLC from exercising "the right of first refusal" given to Chanticleer in a loan agreement with Hooters. If Chanticleer chose to exercise its right, Hooters would go to Chanticleer. Either way, the deal would be completed by the end of the year, a Brooks executor said.
    never mind.

Appologies in advance for a TL;DR I found myself rambling but chose not to edit.

I don't think we have anything close to a hooters in the UK, although I could be wrong, I don't dine out much and when I do it's normally at my local pub that has a few good items on the menu, the mixed grill can help me last 3 days on what is left 5 minutes after the tea bell at work.

I too would be dubious of any special attention given to me by a female member of staff if I were to frequent Hooters or a similar establishment, more so if it was my first time there and not a regular customer.
As a regular, an established one at that, I could expect to possibly be on first name terms with people and not just because they have a name badge and then if something like plaidman described happened I would assume it to be more genuine affection than "we like your tips", as I would feel more comfortable calling BS on them.

If it was full on from the get go and I was a regular, it would get old real quick and I would ask them to tone it down or knock it off completly, hell I might tip more just for leaving me alone instead of being faux fawned over.

Yes the place might be predominantly staffed by women in a certain atire, but that might not be the reason for my visit, OK, I admit I like certain body types, but not predominantly Hooteresque, but I choose my eating venues for what conversations I can have as well as the food, hence my local. I try not to, but sometimes I've had to shout down (as quietly as I can with my sometimes projecting voice) and use a few choice expletives when talking to captain dickhead, I say to and not with but perhaps at would be a more apt choice as I can hardly get him to talk and in the end just go off on whatever is on my mind that day.

I might be asked to tone it down in some establishments, but in others I would be asked to leave, so I gague the NSFR (not safe for resteraunt) levels if we are to have a "conversation"

If hooters fit the bill I would eat there and probably be oblivious to the women with the conversation at hand unless faux fawning or request to tone down inerupted me, he however would probably not be able to listen and look at the same time, if however the only NSFR I could go to involved me having to apply baby oil to a beefcake, putting up with his fuckwittery and the menu had better be worth it.*

Having said that, this only applies when I'm willing to put up with him and am hungry at the same time.

*Legend has it, after I've had a few too many I have been known to flirt with one of the male bar staff, I don't know if thats true or not as the people who told me live in my house and one works behind the bar, she could just be stiring it for fun, or I could genuinly say stuff and remember nothing, where they have full glorious reach for the brain bleach memories.
So part of me would actually feel like I was cheating on him should I be oiling up some man that wasn't him, even if it was only so I could see the menu or get a table
although what if he WAS the table ...

Is it possible that the guys at your bar were just enjoying the moment and really knew that there was nothing was ever going to happen?

Personally, I used to get irked when I worked at Wal-Mart and female customers would get flirty with me when asking me to do things for them. First of all, it's my job to help you, and I'm going to do it. You don't have to act like you want to have sex with me in order for me to get something off a shelf for you.

Also, it's possible that some of the women in your example and Plaidman's examples really were interested (or could have been interested if the situation weren't all business). Hot women often are willing to hook up with guys who are "average-looking" to "unattractive" (in quotes because it's somewhat subjective). This is especially true if the guy has a big wallet (and/or big something else )

It's entirely DIFFERENT when they start to needlessly flirt with me, grope at me, tussle my hair and act like I'm the hottest thing they've ever seen. It's a bullshit lie. Don't pretend to like or think I'm hot. Treat me as a person and/or a customer.
I think that is the whole of Hooters though, which diferentiaties it from regular restaurants. The waitresses are supposed to be flirty and fawn over customers.

It reminds though of when I used to hang out in my neighborhood bar, and every now and then they would have these beer promotions, and two or three scantily clad girls would come, giving out merchandise and samples and trying to get everyone to try the beer. And I'd see a lot of the men get into conversations with the girls, and flirt with them, and end up sitting there telling the girls their life story, as if they REALLY did not understand that these girls do not actually give a shit - they are just there working, pretending to care, trying to get you to buy the beer. It was so funny to me, how so many guys were just happy to have a "hot" girl talking to them and fawning over them. I was surprised more men didn't feel the way you did - insulted that a girl who would normally not give them the time of day was hanging out and pretending to care about their life story. Instead it seemed like
a lot of guys really can't, or don't see through it. Are men really that easy? LoL

Huh. Never once said what they're doing was wrong.

Did say I didn't like it.

But never once said what they were doing was wrong.

Everyone needs a job. They have one. Never said it was wrong.

Other than agreeing that Blas not going was a good decision, I'm not talking about anyone in particular. Same goes for you not going, as well.

They are catering to a specific group of people. You are not in that group, so you don't go. People who are part of that group eat that shit up, however.

But just because you, Blas, and whoever else that doesn't want that sort of experience insn't interested, that doesn't make what they do wrong.

I'm pretty sure they're talking about me Blas87, because my views on women are so wierd to them, despite none know exactly what I think and feel.

It's fine and great to be treated as a customer. As in "hey! How are ya! Here is X specials. What can I do for you?" That's fine. Line is drawn, and everything is great and happy and they're a great waiter/waitress.

That's the difference, and why I didn't like going there.

But I doubt any of you with the exception of Blas is going to understand that. Just that I shouldn't act high and mighty (which I'm not) or how dare I think less of them (I doubt) or that waitress need money too.

Fine. How about this then? Lets replace the me as a customer as you, and replace the waitress as me. Would you tolerate me groping you? Would you just laugh and enjoy me hitting on you nonstop in front of the entire restraunt nonstop? Not only that, but also demand that I get tipped for it? When it's dripping with falsity and fakness and it's obviously that I don't give two shits about you but care everything for your money?

It isn't real, it's fake complitments and false hitting on me, and I get the enjoyment of paying for it on top of that? Yeah, I'm a horrible person for thinking that's sickening.

I was just stating that I can see where Plaid is coming from, because the act that people put on in some professions is just sickening and pathetic.

It's one thing to have to muster a "Have a good day" if you work at Wal-Mart. It's another thing to have to pretend to be a brain-dead sex toy bartender to get tips.

I've already admitted I have insecurities and I am no fan of my bf looking at other girls. But on the same note, he has expressed that he'd be very upset if he ever went deer hunting and I snuck out with some gal pals and went to see the male dancers that come once a year here. (Yeah, two strip clubs within 50 miles featuring girls.....we get male dancers here once a year. During deer hunting season. Otherwise, you wanna see hot nakie men, you gotta go to the Twin Cities).

I could really care less what happens to Hooters and I previously said that I think NOW is more than a little bassackwards and outrageous. I was just sympathizing with another poster.

Moralistic oppressive douche? I myself would never be in a profession of having to act like a retard and shove my tits in everyone's face to make money, or use my body to get money. I have too much pride and self respect. I don't think I'm better than those who do, but my morals are my morals, and I will not let myself be considered an ass because I'd rather see more women do something with their heads instead of their tits.

For some people, looks and a ditzy act is all they have. And I bet they make twice the tips their less trampy competition does, too. Which they'll need, because looks don't last.

Eh. If they want to do that for a living, who the hell am I or anyone else to tell them they can't?

You don't like it, so you don't go there. Excellent decision. More than that, though, and you're verging into oppressive moralistic douche territory.

I can see where Plaid is coming from.

There is a bar here (well, they call themselves a club but it's the same size with the same stupid drinks and blown out speakers that every other over-sized dive bar has here, but hey charge extra to get in) where every bartender is female, always wearing low cut tops and barely there shorts or skirts, and they hit on and flirt with every male customer.

I absolutely hate going there, because they also act fake towards girlfriends/ladies. Always when they wait on me "Hey hun, *snap bubblegum* tehehehehe what can I get for you?" *Snap snap snap bubblegum* "Tehehehehe ok sweetie here ya go!" and it's always the hair-twirl and stick the chest or butt out when they deal with my bf.

Call me insecure, but I'd love to slap the living hell out of them, then pull all their blonde extensions out and choke them with them. Seriously. Act that stupid and slutty for money? You can't get a job at a bar where you can just bs with people?

^But aren't there other magazines/media out there that show that already? Playboy caters to a certain type of female for a certain type of male.

I think the National Organization of Women haven't been keeping up with the times and what women want/need. I'm not saying they're antiquated, but they might have lost touch with the reality of what is now and not the 1970s.

But then again, I'm not a member of NOW, never have been, never will be.

Also, if they find "Future Hooters Girl" bibs to be bad, why aren't they complaining about this:

Wrong. They wanted playboy to expand and show other body types of women, rather then the type they have now. As in more average weight women, or even bigger women.
