Might I suggest Harley Davidson biker boots? For the money you pay, they are worth it and last a long time. I've had mine since seventh grade and I am about to go into my second semester of Freshman year of college. They are warm and sturdy.

I think you should give those folks a pass. Walking barefoot in the snow is a bizarre activity.

It's irritating because it is my neighbors that mention it every year when I do it every year. I hate shoes and socks I walk most places barefoot if I can get away with it.

I understand complete strangers commenting they have never seen me do it before but having people get all weird about it is annoying.

I have walked barefoot in snow. I realize it's a little...off.

It's not like I go hiking barefoot (although I have done that, too, just not in the winter.) in snow. But I'll run out to the shop or the laundry room or whatever in snow barefoot.

If you saw my feet, you would understand. I literally have Sherpa feet.

I'm not saying it feels good or that I don't feel the cold. I do. But my feet are so tough I can tolerate it longer than average. I can conversely walk on burning hot asphalt that others can't do barefoot.

Until my feet start getting cold, the snow actually feels kind of nice. The texture is interesting and the cold is refreshing. Then the cold sets in and it starts hurting and isn't so fun anymore.

If I saw someone walking barefoot in the snow, I would also engage them in a conversation about it. I'd try to determine if they needed help, financial or mental. Because it's just a strange thing to do.

I haven't. Honestly, it's never occurred to me, but I don't think I'll be going that route. I'll just stick to wearing pants year 'round. Besides, here in Ohio, we don't get a whole lot of excessively hot weather. And when we do, it usually doesn't last longer than a month or two.

Yeah it gets annoying when I am walking barefoot in the snow and people are bugging me asking if I am cold, No I am not kidding. I do walk barefoot in the snow and it is annoying when people ask if I am cold.

I won't wear shorts. I have cellulite and butt dimples, it's too gross. I'll wear girl boxers and shorts while working out, but no shorts going out and about. I don't care if it's 90 degrees (highly unlikely considering the "summer" we had this year) I'm wearing pants or, if I have to give in, a skirt. At least skirts give me some leeway. Shorts...they are either too long or too short, and I don't want to wear Mom Shorts to avoid showing my cellulite with Daisy Dukes, so the skirts win.

Same here. I loathe shorts; if it gets warm, I'll put on a skirt. I wear skirts and dresses when I go out, even in winter; I just put on tights and socks with them. I do have one cowoker who teases me about my style...its actually funny now...I'll dress in all black, gothish, then hippie, then hiker-chic, it makes for some enjoyable verbal sparring.

I sometimes take a little guff for the way I dress in the summer. It's because I don't like to wear shorts. I only own one pair of shorts, and it's been at least three years since I have worn them. The only reason I bought them when I did was because, at the time, I was working at a camp, and we had one week that was really hot and humid, and for that, I was willing to let go of my general dislike of shorts and wear some. I've never really liked shorts. I don't feel completely dressed when I wear them, and I've never really been able to feel completely comfortable wearing them. People usually don't say anything about this anymore, but when I was younger, my dad used to make a lot of comments about my not wearing shorts. At the time, it bugged me. But it's really not that big of a deal. He just likes to pick people apart. He does it to everyone.

During cooler weather, I don't hear much about my style of dress since I actually like wearing warm clothes. However, I don't like to wear coats and jackets, and I usually don't. I hate having a coat on while I'm driving. When it's really cold outside, I'll usually take a coat with me, but I'll put it in the backseat just to have in case I have car trouble. Sometimes people make remarks about this, but not very often.

My Docs are my current "snow boots". They do work pretty good, but aren't as warm as I'd like on those really cold days.

Motorbike boots? XD I use my pair for winter walking; they're warm, waterproof and comfy. Plus there's good grip.

+1 on motorcycle boots. I wore my Tourmaster Road Response boots -all- the time. Waterproof, warm, grippy and kinda comfy. $120, but I wanna get a new pair soon, mine are about 3 years old and are falling apart.

A bit off topic, but can anyone recommend a good type of boot for winter wear? I want something waterproof, warm, good traction and will last for years, but not ridiculously expensive. My old hiking boots from Arizona don't work too well here.

I have a pair of brown leather Doc Marten workboots that I wear if I expect to be in wet or muddy situations. I put some DM leather balm on those suckers and I could probably wade though the shallow end of a swimming pool in the things.

Put it this way...they took me through several rainy Pensic Wars (SCA) and I am Swamp dweller. This means I am no stranger to ankle deep mud. My feet were dry. (no they are not pre 1650 period, but I would rather be dry and comfy than period and miserable.)


And of course, Docs have excellent traction and good grippy soles.
