  • "Real women have curves"

I'm sick of hearing this one.

I'm sick of people implying that skinny women - whether naturally slim or through consistent effort - aren't "real" somehow. It creates an "us vs. them" situation that pits women against each other.

With that said, I can recognize the phrase for what it was meant to be, which is an indictment against the impossible standards of beauty we see in the media. Women of any shape or size are going to find it difficult to look like Angelina Jolie. Even Angelina Jolie doesn't look like the Angelina Jolie we see in movies or airbrushed in magazines.

But lately, it's been co-opted by overweight women who want to feel better about themselves. I can appreciate that desire. I've always wanted larger breasts, so I can see the appeal of repeating an easy little quip that implies that flat chests are better. But I don't think attempting to make large-breasted women feel inferior is a good solution to my self-esteem issue. Nor is implying that smaller women are somehow less genuinely feminine than their larger counterparts.

I suppose saying that "average women have curves" would be slightly more accurate, although I have a problem with people calling rolls of fat "curves". I don't have a problem with fat or those that have it. Just call it what it is.

Personally, I think a real woman is an adult with two x chromosomes. Seems to me that being thin, fat, curvy, or whatever probably wouldn't change that.

Seriously though, this is a case where one groups efforts to empower themselves have deteriorated into putting down another group. It's happened in many circumstances.

then why not go with my answer to that phrase whenever I hear it:
"real women come in ALL shapes and sizes"

it's just as hurtful to call a thin woman a horrible name because of her weight as it is to call a larger one a horrible name because of her weight. Both may very well have eating disorders, or medical conditions, and that juvenile name calling is never ok. Sadly society sees "attractive people"(in quotes for a reason, as it is subjective), as immune from being hurt or having feelings, they forget the second part of that phrase is people.

Unless one is a medical professional, in their office no one has the right to make judgements on or statements about someone's weight.

THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I'm also SO sick of hearing that shit.

It also pisses me off when I hear or see people talking about how skinny girls are all stuck up bitches that think they're better than every other woman out there just because they're thin. Not all of us are. Some, yes. But there's big girls out there that have the same fucking attitude. It goes both ways.

Honestly, I'm skinny minnie, and I'd love to pack on like 40 pounds so I could be a bit chubby. I don't like looking like a borderline anorexic. I don't know why anyone would want to have my kind of body, but to each their own, I guess. I'm a fat girl trapped in a skinny girl's body. I eat all the time. I should weigh at least 250 pounds. For real.

It's the same as poor people saying "Money can't buy happiness" or some such. They are people who don't like their situation and come up with a way of convincing themselves that their situation is better.

This is what I say, too. But only to skinnies who don't give me smirking smug looks for being a big girl. Hey, fair's fair. Don't call me a fat cow, and I won't call you an anorexic bitch.

Basically, women come in different shapes and sizes, and I'd love it if clothes manufacturers could realise this. I like a shop nearby me for its wonderful shoes; however, I can't ever buy the clothes for they are designed for thin, boobless women. Then again, someone I know hates it that she can't ever find decent clothes due to being petite; either she has to shop in the children's section, or spend money having clothes altered.

I'm what people might call a curvy woman. However, I'm of the opinion that NO ONE should be judged for what their body looks like, whether fat, thin, athletic, etc.

I have a coworker who is naturally a very thin woman. Random people come up to her and ask why she is so skinny. Is there something wrong? Does she not eat enough? It would be seen as rude and insensitive to go up to a large person and ask why they're so fat, why don't they just stop eating??! It goes both ways.

I wish women could just be proud of their bodies, whatever they may look like, without having to belittle others.

Money CAN buy happiness. Pure and simple. Money can get you anything you want and/or desire. Whoever stated that was sprouting a bunch of bs.

I'm not going to say it can get you anything you want and/or desire (no matter how much money I have, I'll never be able to get Natalie Portman), but you know what money can get? A Corvette. And that'd make me very happy.

Bullshit you couldn't get Natalie Portman with enough money.

Boom, buy her agency. Boom, buy up a dozen scripts. See which one she bites. Put her in. Make yourself the male lead and have as much kissing action as you want. Boom, buy a.... accident specialist, for her husband to be in an accident. Not a fatal one, but one that would cause life long care. Then, provide that all his exes just so happen to move in next door while she's out on movie role. Sparks happen between them, and he cheats. She dumps his ass. You get to make the move then.

Hell, I'd settle for just donating some of the boobs. 44H has plenty to spare. Figure I could lose 15 -20 pounds easy.
