Yep, that's what happened. He went looking for loopholes, found one...and is now pissed that he got caught. As for the "spirit of the law," here's something else to think about. What if the law (the website's TOS) changes? I know that CS (and the model car site I belong to) post stickies whenever we change how we do things. Oh wait, what if someone didn't bother to read the TOS?

Sorry, but ignorance of the law is *not* an excuse. Try that excuse when pulled over for speeding, and see what happens

If someone decides just because he's got a problem with me that he's going to go back and read through all my posts just in case he might find a reason to get rid of me, that's wrong. If there was such a problem with a post I made 6 months ago, it should have been brought up then.


It's not entirely my fault the thread has degenerated a bit. I'm just going with it. We moved on from swearing to a general discussion about how wrong it is for authority to abuse power.

I've gotten lots of speeding tickets, and to the best of my knowledge, not one was because I was sleeping with the cop's wife. Are you saying that if you do something to piss off someone responsible for enforcing the rules, they should no longer enforce them, where you're concerned?

If I've screwed up, and broken a rule of any forum I'm on, I'd prefer to know about it, personally....If you want to go back and review every one of my posts, go for it! If something has went months without getting me banned, I don't see that changing...doubly so, since once I get warned, I tend to learn from the warning, and not make the same mistake again.

Uhm no it's not a violation of the spirit of the law. The violation of the spirit of the law is when the same cop ecstatic because he proposed to his girlfriend so he lets you off with a warning when by all rights he should give you a ticket.

Your right mood can affect how understanding someone is going to be but we aren't talking about a cop singling you out and ticketing you when your driving the speed limit we are talking about a cop pulling you over ticketing you because you were going faster than the speed limit and you think if he is upset in any way he should automatically be barred from doing his job.

I wonder if that was the rule do you think any laws or rules would ever get enforced? Lawyers, teachers, bosses would all have to call in sick with a bad mood because their usually lenient attitude isn't in place today and they might enforce rules they should have been enforcing the whole time.

God forbid anyone be doing their job.

I'm thinking the title and original post were a bit of a passive aggressive way of complaining about the mods on a forum the the OP has been visiting.

It's pretty difficult to actually make a comment on the topic without all the details.
We have only been given the barest minimum of info and all of it quite naturally biased toward the opinion of the OP.

I had speculated quite a few posts back that the OP might have got his wrist slapped because he used some swearing in one of his posts on another site.
The word wasn't specifically listed in the rules, and others seemed to have used swearing in their posts with no reaction from the mods, so he feels singled out. I suspect he used the argument, "It doesn't say in the rules that I can't do that..." which did not win him any love from the mods.
He didn't correct me on that assumption, so I am still going to go with that premise.

He says it's not CS or fratching, but since he made a dig about mods abusing power, the mods from here stepped up to explain how it works from our side of the fence.

After that, the wrap came off the box and the real reason for the post popped out.

It has very little to do with swearing and much more to do with the OP yet again feeling persecuted.

That's how I am seeing it, anyway.

You're coming from the viewpoint that because someone got away with something in your opinion then you can do what you want as well, even though you can't say why someone got away with it.

Nothing bs about it. If its wrong to wrangle the rules until they fit a perception you like, then no one can. If its totally acceptable, then I get to to do it too. What's so wrong with that idea?

I've got news for you - if it's a privately owned website, tough shit. If you don't like the rules and don't think they're meted out fairly, then you move along to someplace to which you're better suited (assuming such a place exists).

I learned a long time ago that life ain't fair. It's all about picking your battles. If I decided to fight every issue that I perceive as 'wrong' in my life, I'd be a miserable fucking person...that's for damned sure.
