Okay, so the joke apparently needs explaining. "Once a week, on Sundays" refers to the typical church going pattern of the average Christian. So, when you say that you watch something religiously, to say, "Once a week, on Sundays" is basically saying, "Oh, you watch the show as often as you go to church."
