Aw, one of my fav threads revived! I loves you!

I'm so sick of the boots over the pants that I want to puke. It's alright if you're thin or tall and you're wearing the appropriate pants/boots, but to the girls at the gym who tuck their baggy, oversized sweatpants into their Uggs......YOU LOOK STUPID!

I don't know how I forgot it before, but jumpers. Those things are atrocious on pretty much anyone over 100 lbs.

Actually, I don't really mind that one. It's very similar to the female mage outfits in Guild Wars, and my toon has been wearing one for years.

Basically it's meant to have "all the fun of a miniskirt and a maxiskirt" in one!

The way that most people wear them is to basically have the short half at the front and the long half at the back. My nickname for them is butt capes, but a friend of mine went one better and calls them "vagina valances"

And I thought the idea of an asymmetrical hemline was that it started around the knee or just slightly above?

ETA: A few new pet hates as far as fashion goes since we're warming up down here:

-One-piece swimsuits that have padded cups in them. Seriously, is it possible for me to find a one-piece swimsuit that I can wear to the beach that DOESN'T have padded cups in it? I have 2 at the moment-one has cups in it, one doesn't, the one that doesn't I use for a workout. MOst tankini tops these days seem to be the same. (I don't wear tankinis for a whole 'nother reason)

-Bodysuits. I'm not talking about the unitards, I"m referring to what is basically a one-piece made out of cotton or poly-cotton etc. and has crotch snaps or ties. Seriously, you wear those as a baby. NOT as a full-grown adult.

-mini-boardies. This is more of a size pet hate than anything else, but I HATE HATE HATE how I can't find 3/4 length boardshorts, let alone any in my size. They're all short-shorts or borderline hotpants.

-Dress hemlines which only JUST cover the butt and not much else: at my sister's year 12 graduation, one of the girls in her year pretty much wore that to receive her award. YOu probably couldn't even call it a dress to be honest!

I had a pair of Wal-Mart's version of Crocs a couple of years ago, although instead of the clog, the heal was closed, so that I could wear them to work.

I can't even tell you how many times people tried to tattle on me for wearing them. Too bad for them, they were closed toed, closed heeled, and we don't work in an area requiring steel toed shoes, they weren't heels or platforms, and they were durable enough to be considered appropriate.

The Crocs that everyone knows and loves to hate are the clogs. Most people already don't like clogs, so Crocs are easy to hate on.

There is a Crocs outlet in the mall near our house. Child Rum actually has a pair of purple Mary Jane style ones. I used to have 2 pairs of 2 different style Crocs. However, they made my feet stink, so I threw them out. I do have a pair of nicely heeled ones. They don't look like Crocs at all.Here is the pair I have - they are the Lydia version. The shoe in the picture is black, but mine are red.

Unless said clothing is namelessly stained, perhaps? I think I mentioned that earlier on in the thread. Anyway, I remember talking to a mate about a local supermarket banning customers coming to shop dressed in night attire; I said that some jammie bottoms can look rather like trousers and I wouldn't really mind if I saw someone walk into the petrol station wearing jammie bottoms... unless said jammies were either namelessly stained (especially on the butt and crotch) and/or sagging (especially if said person is underwearless). No-one needs to see that.

There's a trend in this thread where someone will say, "I hate seeing people in X-style of clothing, because I think it looks ridiculous" and then turning around and saying, "But I wear Y-style of clothing, and I don't care if someone else thinks it's ridiculous!"

There's nothing wrong with either statement, because aesthetics are completely subjective. It's okay to not like certain styles. I just wish people weren't so judgmental about it. People wearing a certain style of clothing have been judged "idiots", "losers", and "pansies" (all words used in this thread). I don't agree with that mindset. I don't think someone's character should be judged based solely on the clothing they choose to wear.

According to the hosts of "What not to wear", since I'm 30, I have no business wearing "attention-getting" clothing- things of unusual and striking style and design. They would say I need to give up things like this:

And I imagine they would want to trash my assortment of bell-sleeved and embroidered shirts and long dresses too.

Screw that. For many years, I was not allowed to wear anything attention-getting or interesting. My parent's, and the school guidance councillor's solution to the relentless bullying I suffered was to try and make me be a chameleon. Don't do, say, or wear anything that might get attention. And also, for many years I couldn't afford to buy interesting things, or supplies to make my own things.
So am I going to give it up now? Hell no!

I remember one episode of WNTW, where they had a lady who worked an office job, and during her off-time, she liked to wear victorian or steampunk-inspired things sometimes. Her friends from the office complained about this. It wasn't just her office wardrobe they took issue with, they also complained about how she dressed outside of work.

Friends who tried to make me over into some notion of "normal" wouldn't stay friends for long. WNTW has some good advice, and they do a good job on people who are sloppy dressers. But they don't understand non-mainstream looks, and I object to their idea that if you dress unconventionally, it must be either an attempt to push people away, or hide yourself.

Also, I wear loads of black eyeliner, and I frankly couldn't give two shits if someone thinks I ought to have left that behind back in my twenties. I'm going to be wearing that shit in my seventies, man!
